The SubGenius Hour of Slack Podcast
The Church of the SubGenius Weekly Radio Ministry

RADIO SAFE! But perhaps as evil as it is good. The mysterious Cleveland artist that calls itself SHERIDAN has provided yet more Show fodder, and it comes at a good time as we are preparing to leave the planet, for good this time. This is a true media barrage, a little of everything that you mostly have never heard before, or heard so long ago -- like at the age of six or seven -- that you still remember it vaguely. Sheridan also does his disturbed radio DJ bit some. "Station WWYN" he calls it. So, strap your headphones or hearing aids on tight!

RADIO SAFE! But maybe not Brain or Hearing Safe. (Look what it's done to Stang.) New Rudy Schwartz Project songs including "Intelligent Design" and "Adjacent to the Latex Gerbil" from the album of the same evocative name! The music is all new and the yakkery is all old Puzzling Evidence from KPFA Berekeley with Philo, Hal and Puzzling, and Don Joyce, and from WCSB Cleveland, with Lonecow Dave, Chas Smith, Dr. Hal and Dr. Sinister. There are some excellent collages by LeMur and Lymph Node Institute. The Swinging Love Corpses play their best song. Rev. J. Cobblestone offers a brand new Dobbs hymn, and Rev. Squalis Friday returns.

The Rudy Schwartz Project just released TWO brand new albums: ADJACENT TO THE LATEX GERBIL and FROP MUSIC. Those titles tell you everything you need to know about this episode. Other new material includes readings from the latest Dobbstown Mirror cult newspaper. An extremely rare, very religious piece by The Firesign Theatre is included, from the Dear Friends live radio days. Puzzling Evidence disturbances and Radio Synaesthesia with guests Dr. Hal and LoneCow Dave bear repeat listening and repeat bear-baiting. The Swinging Love Corpses kill the show, FINALLY.

Something old, something new, some pills red, some pills blue. Why not both? we ask. WHY NOT BOTH. New weird music by Rev. Squalis Friday, lots of Puzzling Evidence and Radio Synaesthesia clips from a few thousand years ago (both with Dr. Hal). "The Larger World," a new Bob Walkenhorst song; Stang reads Goldstein's book from 1984; and Wei and Stang sing a salute to Dr. G. Gordon Gordon that they mutilated from a Warren Zevon classic.

During the many SubGenius radio shows on various stations in 2008, we reminisced about old times and the most horrifying moments of the real-life SubGenius adventure. We saved those bits for this show, which ties in with Stang's SubGenius History / Cult Management online course that was then at Maybe Logic Academy (maybelogic.net). Ironically, brand new mindfuckery ends the show. Show is RADIO SAFE.

This one's not EXACTLY a rerun. It's partly made from episode #139, in which Dr. G. Gordon Gordon gets Stang hooked on Human Soul. There's also some old ranting by Stang from stuff he wrote for the Stark Fist of Removal magazine, and an an exclusive interview with The Swingin' Love Corpses about their drug use. We also hear clips from Sad Dog Diary, by Ze Frank, found on YouTube, and LBJ explaining that "Dogs has always been mah friend." Stang reads from Dobbstown Mirror and also Onan's Sermon on Brains.

((RADIO SAFE VERSION)) This episode is different because it’s so CHEERY. Don’t worry, it’s still sick and twisted; it’s just that moods improved at Stang Ranch with the improved weather, vaccines, and animal behavior. Also, the new Dobbstown Mirror came out, and that’s always cause for celebration and on-air readings. The music in this one is a real mix, with everything from old show tunes to old-school rock and roll to punk to Doktormusic and The Swinging’ Love Corpses — but all cheery or at least spazzy and funny. The Drummond Brothers are featured on Puzzling Evidence clips as well as the Corpses tunes. Old ESO Radio and even older Firesign Theatre are interspersed. Stang reveals the plans for X-Day 2021 at the end.

Some listeners may want to use ear protection. Most of this episode is straight out of Cleveland. The bulk of it is by Sheridan, the mysterious weirdo, who provided another massive 45-minute media barrage. At the end we hear a classic tune from Cleveland's Einstein Secret Orchestra, and some acid garage punk jazz by The Swingin' Love Corpses.

This episode is NOTHING AT ALL like any recent episodes, or any old ones for that matter. It's almost entirely created by the Cleveland weirdo SHERIDAN, albeit using lots of SubGenius clips amid inexplicable things from his own collection. He wanted to give Stang a break so he did two almost-whole shows, of which is this the first. There is a break in the middle for rare, just-unearthed songs by Nenslo and The Swingin' Love Corpses.  ((CLEAN FOR RADIO!)

This episode is exactly like the last three, in that it has the same elements: ESO Swamp Radio from 2001, Puzzling Evidence from 2012, ancient rare Firesign Theatre, and Captain Beefheart. Saves time. Allowed us to get the Kindle version of our new book EYELASH out. We start with the late Prof. Chas Smith explaining the origins of Lonesome Cowboy Dave. Later there is an all-star Puzzling Evidence show, and more ESO, with call-ins from superstars Rev. Bleepo Abernathy, Michael Peppe, Popess Lilith, Bishop Joey of Church of the Last Laugh, and Dr. Phineas Narco of National Cynical... but not Dr. Hal. Towards the end, Philo Drummond and Ivan Stang revert to their true identities as Arkansas hog farmers.

((CLEAN FOR RADIO)) "Nobody's biography has a happy ending!" -- the late Dr. K'taden Legume

This one's heavy on the Puzzling Evidence, an unusual episode from 2012 without Dr. Hal but with Rev. Stang and Dr. Philo Drummond. Rev. Phineas Narco joins by phone. Also: ESO Swamp Radio in the muddy, muddy flesh, The Firesign Theatre from Dope Humor of the Seventies, The Rudy Schwartz Project's Sunshine Supershits, Captain Beefheart, The Psycho Skeletons and Tenacious D. Those were the days. The days of old. Of old people and old Puzzling Evidence tapes.

Penn Jillette, Papa Joe Mama, even Rev. Funnyname! The highlight is probably the report from Rev. Shining Path of Least Resistance to Puzzling Evidence Show on his surreal visit to North Korea. Rev. Stang reads a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes and reveals the new Revelations of Rev. Xenofact. He also reads an angry letter from an ex-fan.

Or is it the lighter side of The Dark? Either way, this is another SubGenius "Silver Age" collection, although there's a brand new rant-song by new contributor Rev. Trevor B. (No relation.) Killer rare clips from The Firesign Theatre, Puzzling Evidence, ESO Swamp Radio,  and the SubGenius documentary movie (which is now free on Amazon Prime and YouTube). The Wei-Stang Clan was hoping to do a new "live" show this week, but two abandoned puppy dogs suddenly showed up on our doorstep, and they've been keeping everybody extra busy with their funny cavorting and pooping. The boy pup is named Yeti and the girl pup is Chupacabra. We think they are mostly German Shepherd so we reckon they will be large. The cats, however, are NOT amused. The only new thing in this episode is a clip about the history of The Book of the SubGenius from Sandy Boone's new movie. Stang mispronounces Nick Offerman's name in the credits but that's understandable since Stang is very, very old now -- as are these amazing best-of selections from The Puzzling Evidence Show, ESO Swamp Radio/Hour of Slack (both from 2001-2002), and unbelievable rare clips from The Firesign Theatre's recent release of their earliest radio work, a collection called Dope Humor of the Seventies. This kind of show is easier for Stang to assemble as he heals up from doing something stupid to his own backbones. And it's much more fun than just using reruns.

This is a pretty word-heavy episode, with NEW, very old, rare material from The Firesign Theatre, along with some old timey ESO Swamp Radio from the year 2001 — very directly Firesign inspired. We continue with samples of the soundtrack of Sandy K. Boone's movie, JR BOB DOBBS AND THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS. Dr. G. Gordon Gordon’s extremely rare “It's Not Just The” # 2 has been unearthed, too! At the end: “Purple Haze” cover by The Psycho Skeletons. The old/new Firesign recordings come from firesigntheatre.com, where may be found many new and old albums such as DOPE HUMOR OF THE SEVENTIES. There would probably not be any kind of SubGenius radio or possibly even Church outreach, without The Firesign Theatre.

(CLEAN FOR RADIO) This one gets REALLY WEIRD. It's a new arrangement of fairly old stuff, all from late year 2000 and early 2001, all from Chas Smith's ESO Swamp Radio at WCSB Cleveland. Every month back then Stang used to compile the clips from that show that he had used on Hour of Slack, just in case he might need ways to reduce show production time in his old age. This is the first of those compilations,. Stang did go to the trouble of taking the random parts and organizing them so that they sound less random and more like we MEANT it to be that way. “We” being the late Professor Chas Smith, who was the host, producer, mixboard operator, and guiding star; Lonesome Cowboy Dave, who had been doing radio and music with Chas for many years, and Stang, the new guy to their show. Rev. Bleepo Abarnathy is also heard, calling in.

(CLEAN FOR RADIO) This episode, #128, was produced on May 1, 1988 for a potentially new audience, as KNON-Dallas had just swapped frequencies with a Christian station. Stang enthusiastically took advantage of having so many confused unwitting new Christian listeners! This is therefore another "explanatory" but also confrontational show, with much spontaneous ranting, plus clips of Stang guesting on Kevin McCarthy's Pink talk show on KLIF-AM in Dallas. That is mixed and matched with various Media Barrages and hilarious then-new music by The Swinging Erudites and Dr. Onan's Wotan Band. Also: reading from "High Weirdness by Mail" which was about to be published. (Coincidentally, the old Dallas version of the show was broadcast on 89.3 at 9 pm Sunday nights -- exactly like the later Cleveland version! Same time and frequency!) (CLEAN FOR RADIO)

This episode is another of those perverted group marriages of young, old and in between. From Hour of Slack #88 we hear the young Puzzling Evidence, Paul Mavrides, Dr. Hal, Ivan Stang, Pope Sternodox, St. Byron Werner and Dr. Philo Drummond. We hear those selfsame early apostles as doddering old codgers, in an excerpt from Sandy Boone's fine documentary film. In between, from the future year of 2000, we hear the middle aged Stang, Lonesome Cowboy Dave, and Professor Chas Smith back before the wars and the diseases and deaths, when we were all ever so happy-go-Slacky. There is not much music but what there is, is The Rudy Schwartz Project and Shemekia Copeland. By coincidence, every level of show age includes background music composed by Nino Rota for Fellini's 8 1/2, performed by various artists including Snakefinger and The Potatoes.

Some very old, some very new, the newest being clips from the SubGenius documentary soundtrack, hopefully encouraging you to BUY THE MOVIE! (dobbstown.org for details) Also new are mixes by Rev. Negative, music from Cult of Zir , Psycho Skeletons and Cribshitter, The Rudy Schwartz Project does a cover, and there’s a rare and touching Glassmadness oldie - actually recorded in Bolivia at Dobbstown 2 in GGG's estate! The older material is from Hour of Slack #76. Ranters include the young 1980s versions of Sister Krys, Rev. Stang, Dr. Onan Canobite, Dr. G. Gordon Gordon, Dr. Hal, Pope Sternodox, Dr. Philo Drummond (his Foot Gland sermon!), and Puzzling Evidence.

RADIO SAFE VERSION. Half is brand new, half is ancient episode #76. We continue hearing clips of the recent Film School podcast with Sandy Boone and Dr. Philo Drummond being interviewed about the new SubGenius feature film. There are some hard-hitting new songs by bands both unfamiliar and very familiar, and the Internet version has a rather blistering and possibly highly offensive extra song added at the end. The angry young 1986 version of Stang delivers a quite cantankerous and strongly worded brag/attack, with hypocritical Christians as its main target, but SubGenius hypocrites as well. The classic G. Gordon Gordon rant "It's Not Just The..." meets its female counterpart, as delivered by Sister Krys. There's lots of Dr. Hal from so long ago that he was just Rev. Hal! Johnny Winter helps Stang celebrate his latest x-rays, which proved Stang's not just a crybaby sissy, but comes by his bellyaching fair and square.

RADIO SAFE VERSION. Brand new show finally! Stang's broke back is miraculously healed by the election results! (Turned out to be temporary, unfortunately.) Dr. Philo Drummond and director Sandy Boone are interviewed about the SubGenius movie. The new Ask Dr. Hal Show on Zoom is excerpted. Sheridan makes a nursery rhyme into a sick, sick, sick short story. Music is all new, by The Empire Jazz Orchestra, Xposed 4heads, Cult of Zir, and Piegatori di Cucchiai. Stang reads from The Dobbs.town Mirror as well as a fan letter, and reflects upon the future, specifically his own.

Rerun of #66. Reverend Stang is still "resting his back." This old episode is another headphones-friendly one, due to sound effects excerpts from 1980s sci-fi movies plus much Puzzling Evidence Show, Gary G'Broagfran, Drs. 4 “Bob,” Dr. Hal, Cleve Dunkan, Captain Beefheart. There's even a surprise appearance by Robert Anton Wilson! All radio safe.

This episode is LOADED with Puzzling Evidence Show, Drs. 4 Wotan, Drs. 4 “Bob,” Dr. Hal, Philo, Glassmadness, and much generally unreleased old Media Barrage albums like #s 4, 6, 7, 8, 9! Rerun of the long-lost #38, with a Men In Black theme (NOT the movie franchise!)... but at the beginning we announce: THE MOVIE IS OUT! Sandy K. Boone's J.R. "Bob" Dobbs and The Church of the SubGenius" is on Amazon, YouTube, Apple TV, Vudu and others ($4 pay-per-view). As for this old show... there's some crazy-ass ranting and collages, and media-barraging, and callers. Lots of G. Gordon Gordon, Young Stang, Buck Naked, and many, many Dallas radio preachers and kooks of the early 1980s.

Stang was laid up from a minor back injury for a whole week, so this is another rerun -- but it is one of the WEIRDEST episodes ever. In 1986 Stang was having fun doing crazy sound effects mixes on a 4-track reel-to-reel deck, partly inspired by Negativland's groundbreaking third album, "A Big 10-8 Place." Half this show is that very album. The other half is Stang's nutty mixes, including a crude "radio play" improvised on location in the wilds of Stang Ranch by Stang and his six-year-old son Xandy, with sound effects and music mixed in later. Xandy and Daddy must fight monsters and find the lost SubGenius colony on Planet Palenquedu, using the Show as a weapon. This episode, like Negativland's album, was produced especially to be heard in stereo headphones and without distractions for utmost "trippy" effect. (Ironically, the now one-eared Rev. Stang can no longer enjoy it that way!) There's also some Puzzling Evidence radio show, Pope Sternodox and doktor-music.

"Having listened back to this episode, closely, for the first time in decades, I must say that we must in fact have been TOTALLY AND UTTERLY TRIPPING BALLS THE WHOLE TIME." -- Rev. Ivan Stang, October 2020

Be that as it may, this early episode exploited Dr. G. Gordon Gordon and a great deal of the SubGenius album called Media Barrage 10, an editing tour-de-force thanks to St. Byron Werner, Puzzling Evidence, Hellpope Huey, DEVO, Dr. Philo Drummond, and others. There are two suites by The Swinging Love Corpses near the end that are just jaw-dropping if not jaw-amputating.

Stang Sermon at Starwood 2020 -

Starwood Festival is usually like a mini-Woodstock. But in 2020, like so many great weirdo festivals, everything had to happen in the Matrix, with all attendees and presenters looking at each other in little boxes on little screens. But, at least we could hang out! Starwood is the one annual venue where Stang is paid to blabber for an hour straight without fear of interruption -- so he tries harder then. He saves the year's best "Bob" quotes and crazy personal stories for Starwood, and even gets intermittently serious. 2020 was a BAD year, and this is Stang's most earnest pep-talk about that. A highlight is the pinpointing of various predictions "Bob" made back in 1982 and earlier, which were published in THE BOOK OF THE SUBGENIUS, and which in too many cases have suddenly come RELENTLESSLY AND UNCANNILY TRUE, ALL AT ONCE. Stang also gives his testimony on "HOW I INFILTRATED THE PROFA MOVEMENT" and reads some carefully selected important excerpts from Neal Stephenson's recent novel FALL, specifically addressing the coming fallen and dangerous culture of rural rednecks who live 24/7 in tailored realities delivered by their portable devices, via a feedback loop that tracks their eyes, blink intervals, and pulse rates -- in other words, how the Internet now is making dumb people much dumber so quickly. There are also some funny parts.

Rerun of Hour of Slack #5 (1985) -- At age 67, Rev. Stang is lately refusing to work as hard on this show as he did thirty five years ago. You listeners should just be danged glad that we still have the master tapes -- well, the dubbing masters, which are on cassette -- and can provide high quality reruns that are probably much better than the same preachers, bands and collagiastics/collagierros can possibly crank out now, in their geezerhood. When we got the radio show on KNON Dallas in '85, we had the ten 90-minute Media Barrage albums we had created, and three years of Puzzling Evidence shows, to work from, along with the then-new contributions from people like Brother Cleve 'Donut' Dunkan. The week this particular episode was assembled, the great spouter Dr. G. Gordon Gordon was in Dallas, and did some co-preaching with Stang in the Bulldada Time Control Labs home studio, which recordings are interspersed with the Puzzling Evidence and Media Barrage clips. Dr. Ahmed Fishmonger's amazing science lecture "THE MUTRON" is included, barely censored. Other contributors included: Dr. Philo Drummond, Dr. Onan Canobite, Rev. Bleepo Abernathy, Stang's kids, Sternodox Keckhaver and Janor Hypercleats, Glen Carlson and Former President Lyndon Baines Johnson, Stefan Hammond, Hellpope Huey, Pope David N. Meyer, Dr. Hal, Gary G'Broagfran, Mark Mothersbaugh, St. Byron Werner

(REVISED Sept.21) FIRED! The West is fired. The East is drowned. TIME FOR A PARTY IN THE MIDWEST! -- before the rattlesnake-nadoes, anti-masker water riots and burning cactuspus storms beset EVEN US, the Savage Mind of the Country's Interior (as per PuzEv). Sheridan retells the story of Adam and Eve. Onan publishes a SubGenius newspaper which Stang reads. And there are AT LEAST THREE SONGS ABOUT THE WORLD BURNING, ranging from classic masterpiece to bulldada doktor. Noisemakers include Cult of Zir, Soma for Savages, Rev. Negative, and "TNN" (Dr. Faux involved). Towards the end are two epic ancient tracks! One is Rev. Slanderbob's 2010 remix (adding music) of a pretty blistering and energetic devival sermon rant preached (in the 1990s?) somewhere by Rev. Stang before he lucked into Slack and got old and calmed down considerably. The other is an operatic instrumental tour-de-force by The Rudy Schwartz Project called "Buncombe Doubly Damned" from the album Delicious Ass Frenzy. (Trivia note: Stang is excitedly editing a music video using insect wildlife and goat ranch footage to illustrate this RSP composition -- which grotesquely tips its ridiculously ungainly hat to the incredible "Spaghetti Western" scores composed by by the late Ennio Morricone.)

This is not exactly a rerun, but it was recorded on Halloween night of 1985. The great SubGenius ranter and assassin G. Gordon Gordon was in town from Bolivia, and we'd been invited to Karen Denard's popular nightly talk show on the Dallas NPR station, KERA. Pastor Buck Naked was also there. This would have been Hour of Slack #4, but, it was a competing station's show so we waited almost three years and then played it in small bits and pieces over several Hours of Slack, around show #150. So this is the first time it's ever been played in its whole one-hour form on Hour of Slack. Many of the callers were Dallas SubGenii, pretending to be new to it. The callers, Buck Naked and GGG were all in very fine form that night, and the host was super cool. Proof that David Letterman's producers shouldn't have been too chickenshit to have us on his show.

The Internet version is "clean," but has a lot of news tacked onto the end, plus some cool Swinging Love Corpses music.

A rerun of, get ready, Hour of Slack Number Three from October 1985. We had done only two prior shows in the crude KNON Dallas studio, and Stang was obviously still unfamiliar with the equipment. The amazing things about this episode are the special guests: three of the key early SubGenius Doktors were all somehow in Dallas that week. We had just done the Scary Ball Devival at the Twilight Room with Drs. 4 Bob. The oldest known SubGenius, Dr. G. Gordon Gordon had come for that... from BRAZIL. The normal-age Dr. Gary G'broagfran was there from Berkeley, and the then youngest SubGenius, Dr. Onan Canobite had come from Knoxville Tennessee. We ALL sound like BABIES. Miraculous! -- that everyone on that recording is still alive. PROOF OF "BOB" right there, my fellow prayer partners. Or... payer partners.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION of Better Living Through Confirmation Bias! CULT OF ZIR rears its ugly head, as does the thing they call Sheridan. This is a rerun of #1232 from 2009, recorded mostly at a live devival in Portland, and today the preaching by Portland natives Uncle Dr. Onan Canobite and Rev. Crawford Smith seems strangely timely and even prescient! The blurb then: "We have some GREAT new music (The Attery Squash, SODDI, Mutant Mountain Boys, Kenneth Jonsson, The Duke of Uke, and the grand southern mission of the first thing that came into my bobslack) and some of the best ranting from the Portland Cyclone of Slack devival from last October: Dr. Hal, Rev. Crawford Smith, and Dr. Onan Canobite. There's also a goodly stretch of Radio Synaesthesia, involving Lonesome Cowboy Dave. It's all peppered with wonderful ear-humping collages by LeMur, Phineas Narco, Rev. Sweetness McGee, Rev. Eric, The Large, and Wilhelm Stahlhelm."

And a salute to the late Ennio Morricone. Guests on the Zoom "stage" included Dr. Hal, Uncle Onan Canobite, Dr. Philo Drumoond, Rev. The internet version is much longer than the radio version, with some SubGenius History as well as a paleontology lesson about a little-known Cretaceous life form called rudists -- which may be of interest to SubG purists, Junior Scientists and collectors but we thought may be too "inside" for broadcast radio. We're going to 23X-Day, right in our own homes. The centerpiece is a face-peeling new X-Day rant by the great preacher Father Joe Mama. Much of this episode also samples audio from the first hour of the first day of the first X-Day held entirely online by teleconferencing. Most of X-Day week this roomful of Zoombies was a free-for-all, but we started with this attempt at a traditional "live" X-Hour of Slack limited to mainly Old Radio Doktors: Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, Uncle Dr. Onan Canobite, Rev. Ivan Stang and Pissbaptist John Shirley, with Professor Pontius Pressure engineering and hosting. Rev. Modemac later joined in. This is very edited, because everybody could see each other and were constantly referring to greenscreened background visuals or "Show-and-Tell" display of objects -- frustrating to the blind radio audience later. It's interspersed with classic 1980s SubGenius Media Barrage album clips, LeMurian seasoning, The Psycho Skeletons, Danny Elfman "so-lo," and two Doktor songs by the new Dobbs Youth band, SubG Kids. During the teleconference, the conversation turned with surprising frequency to extremely speculative theories about dinosaurs, including Ghost Dinosaurs, Gas-Bag Dinosaurs, and even Moon Dinosaurs.

We're going to 23X-Day, right in our own homes. The centerpiece is a face-peeling new X-Day rant by the great preacher Father Joe Mama. Friends, the Virtual Online X-Day Drill was lots of fun. The audio recordings are gonna take some editing, though. Luckily, Rev. Susie the Floozie saved our bootaw by doing a SUPERB brand new X-Day and Plague episode of "Bob's Slacktime Funhouse on WREK Atlanta!

Note: Both versions are radio-safe, but the Internet version is 3 minutes longer.

This is the second part of that old recording that's not a rerun, because we never ran it uncut and unmarred. This is as close to the master recording off WCSB Cleveland's cassette deck that we'll get. It was recorded July, 1994, right around X-Day 6. Participants on this ESO Swamp Radio episode were host the late Prof. Chas Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei, and Rev. Ivan Stang.

Speaking of X-Day, we'll be doing a virtual meet-up this week until the Saucers come and take us away. The details will be on subgenius.com if you want to join us on Zoom, starting July 5. We will attempt to record Hours of Slack each afternoon, via teleconference! Starwood festival is also being done that way.

This is not exactly a rerun, but rather a long lost classic, recently unearthed. We found the master recording of an ESO Swamp Radio and Brain Rot Theater show that Stang sat in on while visiting WCSB in Cleveland in July of 19 and 94. We were all young and in our prime, with the FIRE in the BELLY, and it really shows. Bits have been used before on ancient Hours of Slack, but this recording stands alone just fine, possibly much better, and it's a superior reproduction of the original master recording. It was in fact two hours long and we'll probably run the second hour next week. Participants include host Prof. Chas Smith (R.I.P.), Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei 'R." D'oh!, Ivan Stang, and several callers including the late Dr. Dark.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION!

Not the same old! Stang couldn't hide from it forever, and directly addresses the BLM situation by describing the setting, set-up and denouement of a (luckily) peaceful demonstration in the small rural town of Glen Rose, Texas. The counter-demonstration was extremely hostile, but took place entirely on obscure local Facebook pages. We gave a lot of thought to the appropriate music to use, which ended up being five weirdly topical (yet kind of old) songs by The Rainmakers, one twelve-minute song by Jimi Hendrix, and some antimusic and ranting from a brand new Doktorband, SubG Kids (High Priestess Poochie, Rev. Katana007, Rev. Negative). LeMur provides the world news.

This remaster of #44 comes from the prehistoric days of 1986, when audio was edited on, at best, 1/4" reel-to-reel tape using a splicer and lots of little reels, and copious paper notes, or else, at worst, two cassette tape decks and a "record-pause" button. Seems like it was somehow... better... oh, well. Along with excellent remastered copies of the otherwise unreleased Media Barrage #8, this also features a then-young Spouting team calling themselves The Rat Cave. THEY WERE GREAT! As heard below. Everything is punctuated by an ongoing rant by the Angry Young Stang about how subversion of the current regime is always itself subverted by being turned into a fashion. AS TRUE TODAY AS IT WAS THEN! Maybe much worse. Also: a choice section of Michael Peppe's rant-masterpiece "Ad," and some pretty disturbing ending thoughts from Roberto de la Rosa, cracked son of David Boone. And Negativland, Nash the Slash, Alan Watts, Oingo Boingo. The good old days. If you're old.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION! (Actually the Internet version is clean too, but longer than one hour.) From the year 2000 comes this remastered Hour of Slack 724 rerun, packed with Slack from ESO Swamp Radio, the XX-Day 1999 devival, Media Barrage 11 on the subject of UFOs, Todd Rundgren "rap" songs, Hemorrhoy Rogers and His 'Roid Boys, Ryanetics, and am amazing string of one-line movie spoilers by Dr. Hal and Puzzling Evidence. This was digitized from the cassette master, which incidentally seemed strangely bass-y after transfer in the ESO Radio sections... according to Deaf Stang's hearing aids, anyway. Frequency correction was applied!

RADIO-SAFE VERSION - Rerun of Hour of Slack #664 from early 1999, featuring the late Prof. Chas Smith's amazing edit of best SubGenius moments from his ESO Swamp Radio show with Stang and Lonesome Cowboy Dave, and several "Bob" hymns by Einstein's Secret Orhcestra (his "ESO Volume 10" special tape). We also hear ESO, Stang, and Lonecow Dave live at a November 1998 devival at the Euclid Tavern in Cleveland. King of Slack Bill T. Miller has two songs in this episode. This whole episode is a great example of the ESO/Hour of Slack barrage-edit and music collaboration at its peak.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION! This is an hour of nothing but Rev. Ivan Stang alternately hollering and muttering to the live audience at the 39th Starwood Festival in July 2019. (Stang has ranted at the last 29 Starwoods, almost always on Saturday afternoon at the main stage.) We beg your forgiveness but we have to crank these things out or else resort to reruns. Topics include: Stang's health (he's old). When X-Day Comes. A SubGenius dialog about love, hate, and stinky socks from The Handsome and Mature Gentlemen's Club, a secret society. News of the Church -- the movie, and NEIGHBORWORLD. Stang on his actual job, President Cartman's fan club and Self-Validating Philosophies, what happens when all world electronics fry in a solar storm, and the unprecedented polarization between urban and rural Americans. Highlight: Stang does a dramatic reading of an amazing fire-in-the-belly rant written by Rev. Baby Bear, originally meant to be delivered by her at an aborted Starwood-related event. Stang addresses the way some SubGenius's actual minor superpowers are termed "disabilities" by the Conspiracy, and there is a Q&A at the end about underwear.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION! Rev. Ivan Stang talks relatively straight for a change, and reads from The Bobliographon at some length. Works by three NEW Hour of Slack contributors make up the rest. There's a strange song by David Morrison (mixed by The Rudy Schwartz Project), two strange musical sampling collages by "Sheridan" of Cleveland, and two collage mixes by Dr. Filius O. Fooey. A little more of the 22X-Day show from last week also carries over. This episode has more real-life Church and Stang Ranch news than most. The entire creepy nature of all human POLITICS is also confronted head-on in the Bobliographon readings.

22X-Day "2019," July 6 at Wisteria with Dr. Hal, Rev. Ivan Stang, Princess Wei 'R.' D'oh!, and Rev. Angry Larry. RADIO SAFE.

Inexplicable horror intro- Let's walk down this lane... going straight to another show for you. The faithful have been judged. Good! Saturday schedule. Recuperating; Bobtism at 2 pm in pond. Old Sequaw. The Wall of Ticks. Costume or Not Ball. Bulldada Auction of Exploding Death-Robot. "Bob" Burning late tonight. It still COULD be X-Day -- any second! - as we say in our July 6 disappointment. California earthquakes and Hal's dinosaur collection. One may never prepare adequately. The impossible evacuation of huge cities. There's no escape. The rescue pilots will mock you in the rising river. You can't have safety. There go the saucers flying away empty-handed. What if everybody outside of Wisteria got Ruptured? Thanks Oboba. Thanks Philo. Philo has left the camp. Rev. Sosodada has returned to the folds. Many folds at the Bobtism. Saints? The Taints of the Church. Taint Paul, Taint Philo, Taint Peter. Philo tain't here. Has to mow his graveyard of humans. Stang has a graveyard only of shellfish. And the fossil devil skeleton, alien skeleton, robot skeleton. Devil skull is like bug mandible. Demonsaurus Rex. Fossil Cretaceous devil has a heart bone and a bacula. Pappy's swizzle sticks made of dick bones of walrus, bear, raccoon. The Walrus Pizzle Murder. Stang's Cabinet of Wonders at the impregnable fortress -- though "Bob" impregnated the actual fortress. That time "Bob" raped Pater Nostrils car while they were inside. "Bob's" bastard auto children. Breaks your muffler. Sopping! Gypsy dance music from "House of Frankenstein" and plot summary. The hunchback girl's crush on Larry Talbot, who is always whining and fretting. Some SubGeniuses THINK they can pass as human or even think they're human. Stockholm syndrome. THE THING couldn't be a mummy. The papier mache Indian mummy and baby mummy. Stang knows where the one switch is to shut off every light in Carlsbad Caverns. Smuggle in glow-in-the dark Indian Ghost Spirit outfits, plunge the cave into drkness, then we rise up and moan. And hope there's not a good guy with a gun. Panicking people impling selves on stalactites. The kids who hid in the cave. Stang's been to Carlsbad Caverns 9 times and will preserve it on his escape vessel IN the Grand Canyon. SubGs not pure enough for Xists... minds filled with desires and coffee...

Need new voice! Angry Larry? Hal muttering... Rev. Angry Larry joins in. Philo's mechanical heart. Bobtism ad. Snore-fest X-Day. Description of the clown show with weinermobile jumping over 3 flaming cars. Weinermobiles of America. Oscar Meyer Hotdogs vs. Nathan's. Need crowd for Bulldada Auction - the clowns want the big penis. Just the beat-up head. It had been beat on mostly by dames. The violent Women's Revolts of the old SubG cons. The penis-head mask looks like a Toho character vs. Big Man Japan. DICK-HEAD. The mushroom man - "I'm President Trump's crotch." Mario Cart stumpy-dick. The problem of unusual looking penii such as Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson. "is your pecker spotted like your hands?" Speckled pecker disease. Ray gun from the late President's estate. That car's full of clowns! Extraterrestrial or Japanese. Putting batteries in new robot toy. Acid and corrosion in the robots. You may already be a weiner.

LSD is the bomb" PSA. Rev. Angry Larry is gonna "do" the raygun. The kind of disintegrating gun that is slowly disintegrating in the basement. Now Stang misses Philo irritating him. Larry can be just as annoying if we want. Stang is not the way he used to be. Still hasn't hung Dobbhead or set up projector. We got the big Eyeball up there. The mystery of the ray gun batteries. Something inside the old toy is pulling back on the old corroded batteries. Stang's hat was found, after being used as a mic stand. ((CUT hat stuff)) ASBESTOS UNDERWEAR - Media Barrage bits - Chas song - All Bulldada Auction items are death traps. WEI COMES! Her helm and space crown. Raygun is broken plus sound effects. Auctioning Bobble-Body Zombie. After the Bobtism. Plenty of time since aliens didn't come - time to kill, murder and create. "We're gonna need a bigger clock-killing dagger." The Behemoth. We still have to do Starwood. Sentenced to another week of Slack, darn it! Normal ordinary tedious antislack would be great. Enough of this inebriating and orgy-ing.

((REMOVED: While we were gone Claudia pried boards off fence and escaped. So it was X-Day for Claudia. Bit of BUDDY lyrics. Stang looks for lyric sheets while Wei stalls. OCD -- not disorders, super-powers. Long waiting. Finds a roach. Arguing about the music. Wei and Stang sing BUDDY -- horribly.))

Rev. Watt deFalk's book THE BLASPHEMERA - three auction items so far that aren't deadly boobie-traps. They'll only blind you metaphorically. Claudia escaped -- Buddy slept through it. "I'm not really a rebel, I'm just an IDIOT." -- Faux "It's okay if we're only offending dumbasses" -- "Bob" Not just okay but our Bob-given right and duty! If they're offended, that proves they're dumbasses! It's an intelligence test. Below a SubGenius. CAN mean "beyond SubGenius." Can't be in Mensa and CoSG at same time -- but we have a cure for geniusness - two cures: ball peen hammer, and drugs. Plain liquor will do it. Geniuses don't need livers! SubGs don't need brains but do eat brains. Stang can't handle the allergen any more. Xists have Ruptured bits and pieces: his energy, his memory -- now a wisp, a shadow, a SHARD of a man. Every single cell suffering the Pain of A Hundred Billion Pains... times the number of cells. Even my bowel bugs have indigestion and insomnia. Hurry up, X-Day. The Fountain of Youth wasn't any of those pils. That which does not kill me makes me weaker. All old people talk about: health problems. Learned a lot more about criminal law and justice system than I wanted to. You learn the most interesting things, like felons can't be insured. Cath's THINGS I DON'T WANT TO SEE, HEAR, AND SMELL ANYMORE. Samples of Anti-C-! the RubGenius musings. Things she doesn't want to hear. Things she doesn't want to see on a daily basis. (Ass cracks, guards, razor wire, and women.) Things she doesn't want to smell any more. Her roomie wants a boyfriend. She has Jesus, what else could she need? Cath's observations on death -- she's been dead. Like Polly in Peaky Blinders. She's like the Professor on Gilligan's Island. Remembers lyrics. They were amazed to learn where Israel is and why Robin Hood doesn't just get a gun. They did not know that America was not always English speaking white people. Has to explain Star Wars to them constantly. She was able to "pass" among regular Pinks, but not here. There's racial gangs and she hangs out with the Mexicans. 12-hour trips to doctor on a hot crowded bus. They remind you every step of the way that you are a BUG. Gets humiliating body search every time we visit.

Time to go to the Bobtism!

RADIO-SAFE, "CLEAN VERSION of Stang's Oingo Boingo Fanboy Tribute Show. We start with two new Trump-bashing songs -- SORRY, SNOWFLAKES -- CRY!! -- by Roy Zimmerman and Bob Walkenhorst, and then it goes into an all-Oingo Boingo first-two-albums tribute show with Stang explaining before each song why he identifies with it so much. The band Oingo Boingo in the 1980s seemed riveting to, of all people, filmmakers of that era, which included Rev. Stang. Maybe that's why the band leader, Danny Elfman, and guitarist Steve Bartek, ended up composing so many Hollywood movie scores after the band thinned out.

Rev. Susie the Floozie did it! It's this week's "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse, and we get to premiere it! The opening segments are brand new; the rest is a classic Susie old-school super-collage media barrage on the subjects of Easter and deadly diseases, slightly seasoned up with modern clips. There is some possibly fanciful ranting about Rev. Ivan Stang's sex life near the end, but most of it is the WALL OF SPLICES for which The Flooze is famous. This is the second weekly show episode we've released this week, which puts us AHEAD! ... and more timely than usual.

((Cut Dave's diarrhea and Memory Pants. )) Vet sign: "Wash Your Paws." Dave turns it into Scrub Your Parents Down. Talking about X-Day with various SubGeniuses... X-Day will be in two weeks on a CRUISE SHIP. Suddenly other old people started wearing masks. Forgetting much easier than forgiving. Forgiving doesn't matter once you forget. Stang wants Alzheimer's pills for his memory. What if no one can travel in July? And everybody's broke. All the bartenders and waiters broke... Home-delivery strippers in Portland called Boober Eats. The Xists know our addresses; we don't have to be at some campground; can Rupture in Place. Let a Thousand Little X-Days Bloom. (X-Day possible cancellation slogans.) Or could use teleconferencing and Stay Home to Know What you Really Think. Too Much TP is always better than not enough. Fully paid trip to X-Day IN YOUR OWN HOME! Some are going nuts trying to live like Stang has for 30 years. World ended not with banging on highways but a whimper. Papa Joe Mama's letter about X-Day -- the Con designed this disease so none of us can escape! What would "Bob" do? Everything now resembles NEIGHBORWORLD! - everybody on the Internet ALL THE TIME. Teleconferencing with SubGeniuses. Zoom and security problems. Pretty dark and dismal and will get worse. Stang coaches Dave's speech. "I already got the chance to get old but some may not." There's a generation between Boomers and Milleniards that hates both of them. The smarty-pants quit reproducing. Stang and Dave reproduced. Grandkids going nuts stuck at home, using Kid Messenger. The time a photo of Stang's bruised veiny forearm was interpreted by FB AI robots as a foreSKIN. Funny foreskin jocularity. Some at home might READ, but instead they're texting. Background music is Wendy Carlos doing Brandenburg Concertos #2 Allegro. Caca soto means quiet poopoo. Stang can't draw or sing but can splice sentences together. We need to grow oil wells. Dave had natural gas since he was six. YourMommaDid, is that like a thermometer. Fanciful coronavirus cures. Fox should be sued for their virus disinformation. The cure: Joining the Church of the SubGenius. You may not live but you'll go to a better Hell that prepares you for SubGenius Heaven. Our local hot spot is the nuclear power plant. Hundred of out of towners are coming for annual repairs so the locals are paranoid. Drive-in services at the Cowboy Church. Stang's love of cowboy gospel music. REAL gospel is great whether black or cowboy. European tourists go to African American churches in South Carolina for the atmosphere. Stang's Pappy used to stand outside black churches to hear the singing when he was a kid -- and was still singing them in 2015. Child Pappy and Black churches. Now it's illegal to have a church service unless streaming. But there'll be fewer Republican voters soon. Trump rallies, gun shows, NASCAR to "pwn" the libtards. Stang only READS news. McLuhan's weird baloney is okay, it's his fan club... bad as members of the God fan club. Jesus, how could I judge him if he didn't exist, The census now: Are you a Mexican? What kind? Actually what kind of Hispanic? Stang's answer regarding ancestry: British Isles/Neanderthal. Or say Denisovan to throw 'em off. Monkeys use tools. Fish use tools. Octopuses are the smartest and they don't even have bones. But it's okay to eat them because they're cannibals. As SubGeniuses we won't say who's smart, just who's the most fun! Smart gets you nothin' but misery. They let prisoners out in Ohio - non murderers over 60 - not in Texas. Might let rapists and junkies out but not pot smokers or abortion havers. Obviously the powers that be are taking advantage of this chaos to lock down their permanent regime of right wing white supremacy. Erasing every single scientific advance - hate anything scientific because it's related to libtards. What can they do bt hate? They aren't equipped to do much else. Senators cashed in on the disaster and everybody forgot. "The President so crappy that America ran out of toilet paper." It's going around like other things that are going around. Stang's mild early hoarding. Just buying one extra every time. Dave's stash is only for a week. Stang's, a month. Need TWO months. We have soap -- TRIOLOGY SOAPS! With Dobbshead inside! Description of of Triology soaps. Stang hates the deoderent chemical smells. No prob as a 3-pack smoker. Now can't stand the detergent aisle. We may have had it already and didn't know. Stang's 3 friends who had all the symptoms in December and flunked flu test. Stang doesn't touch anybody but his dogs and two old ladies. Stang's not a socialist distancer. "Who needs public anything? Libraries? Roads?" Russia, China, Germany Cambodia... these things happen when all the uneducated people decide to throw everybody with glasses or bilingual into mass graves. Autocratic regimes everywhere. We'll be totalitarian dictators on our own spaceships two weeks fom now on the X-Day Cruise Ship! It'll be PACKED! Stang preaches against Devil Virus televangelist-style. 60% of those pew-packers won't be voting! So old and obese. Poebucker details: Monskoes (skinny poebuckers) and Quaints (obese poebuckers). Not fat shaming, but poverty and morbid obesity. Dave's Confederate neighbor in uniform and holding AR-15 in front yard. He's a nobody but he's got a GUN! Who's the dumb one. "Democrats don't have guns or motorboats." They'll be surprised when they discover not only did a lot of libtards have guns but they're CRACK SHOTS! All Stang has is the Sword of Bob, an old smelly pipe. If no men, no wars -- but in world without men, some women would fill the niche! ARMY OF FERAL HOGS attack! Wei just arrived. We're eating cyanobacteria Nostoc. Tastes like what it grows on. Should grow it on ice cream. Welcome, Wei. Wei's mic has an on button, Mic 1, the good one. Want Dave on streaming parties, but like GGG he resists computer shit. Talking to another idiot is what the Church of the SubGenius is all about. SubGenius radio problem of talking over each other; Zoom forces people to have manners. Rawhide time for Buddy. The dogs keep us to a very tight schedule. The dogs program us as much as we do them. Ramus and Remus. Onan biz about the Angel of Death sent away temporarily by Dobbsheads. Did I read all this stuff last week? Maybe I do have Alzhiemers. X-Day not cancelled, but camping outlawed now. Many people defying safety due to Trump crap. There is a silver lining - a lot fewer Trumpers in the coming months. The IDIOCRACY documentary. Fuddruckers and Boober Eats. In the country of the Blind the One Eyed Man is King, but none of us have one eye. And the two-eyed person is FUCKED in that country. Details of "In the Country of the Blind" by H. G. Wells. Stang on Wells. Emergentiles = Morlocks, Rewardians = Eloi. Nice Eloi and Mean Morlocks. Morlocks/Eloi Rewardian/Emergentile rant. We only take one in ten. Most SG are Rewardians; only one in 10 CAN be Emergentiles. Dave worried about time on his phone. Always send copy of show and a tiny little check. Dave's dirty word: Opthamology. Wei's precocious sentence at age 1, Stang's at age 2. Dave solved all the world's problem at age 7! But only for about one minute, then the world got back to normal. When The Others run out of food they'll visit the neighbor with a veg garden but no guns. Our peed-on straw bale garden. Curing disease by drinking own pee. History of Bob Nelson show. THIS IS THE BROADCAST-READY, RADIO-SAFE VERSION

Because most of the stations that run our show are programming their stations remotely, we provide them this MP3 because it's easier than having to deal with the potentially virus-laden CDs we might normally mail them. The Broadcast version is always under one hour, sometimes much shorter than the Internet version.

THIS EPISODE: Half brand new and topical, half old as Hell and possibly as old as dirt -- and ALL KILLER! Stang's "Local Captain Trumps Report" culminates in some SICK (sic) versions of classic SubGenius slogans and "Bob" lines. This followed by 24 minutes of some of the best old-time Church Media Barrage, mixed with some Stang rants and "news" from around 1987 -- including a reading of a GREAT Paul Mavrides short story called "World Without Slack" starring Jesus Christ and Jim Jones on a Battle Saucer on X-Day. Uncut version of audio clips used in ARISE! And part of the Mister Science Lecture Series regarding the elementary particle, the Mutron. At the end is one of the weirdest Rudy Schwartz Projects tunes EVER, but just before the end, we play Bob Dylan's first song in eight years, the 17-minute epic "Murder Most Foul" -- which might make you bawl your eyes out IF you are 66 years old and grew up in Dallas. And had Puzzling Evidence for a buddy.
