Hour of Slack #1288 - DEVOtional/Collage Special #2

It's all collages and we're all DEVO. We return to the DEVOtional to exploit the live recordings (and studio Cds) of the many bands and weirdos influenced by DEVO -- interspersed with earbone-wrenching collages from several newer contributors. We think SubGenii will enjoy the non-DEVO covers by new bands like Nervous Energy, FarBarf and International Espionage! Jerry Casale rants with The Spudboys! And there's even a Captain Beefheart cover, added just BEFORE we learned of the recent death of that great BulldadArtist.

Hour of Slack #1287 - SubGenius Ultimate Xistlessnessmess Mix Rerun Special

What are the holidays without reruns? This is the annual traditional Xmas Re-Rerun of #867 (& 921 and 1026, 1077, 1129 and 1236), which was itself a condensation of some ancient year's 3-show "Best of Xmas Sickness" compilation, which were themselves the concentrated best-of from 15 years' worth of previous Xmas SubGenius  and other Xmas weirdo collections.

Hour of Slack #1286 - The Toilet Zone: Tea Baggers Vs. Frankenstein

This live show from Dec. 5 opens with a string of collages utilizing especially pertinent old Twilight Zone shows, some colLARGEs and a new song by Phineas Narco. Then Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in, and some extremely quirky background music goes on. Dave, Wei and Stang explore the similarities between current talk radio, Hitler, and Dennis Hopper playing an American Nazi in 1963; doktormusic; patriotism; the Members-Only ScrubGenius forum; bulldada; naked wet shaved dogs; and Stang reads selected passages from the ancient novels FRANKENSTEIN and DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, in a special way. Persons who are sensitive to psychotomimetic drugs should be careful when using this episode.

Hour of Slack #1285 - TIME MADNESS (rerun of #863, 2002)

This episode of The Hour of Slack is a rerun, but a MYSTERIOUS one. Our friend St. David Bachner has gone to the trouble of digitizing almost all of the first 1,100 Hours of Slack, transfering them from cassette tape to MP3, and making them freely downloadable on his website. We have been inspecting the logs of the downloads and noticed a couple of very strange things. Firstly, a suprising number of old shows are being downloaded by people in Russia and China. Secondly, while most of the old show have been downloaded by an average of from 200 to 400 people, ONE of them has been downloaded almost 20,000 times! Our new shows get an average of like 3,000 downloads a month or so, but this one old show has been downloaded 20,000 times! We looked it up to see what was so special about it. It's Hour of Slack #863 from the year 2002, titled "TIME MADNESS," and it has some great stuff on it, but... damn if I know why this show out of all our 1200-odd shows has been copied by 20,000 people. Maybe YOU, dear listener, can figure it out. Please let us know, if you do.

Hour of Slack #1284 - DEVOtional 2010 Pt. 1

We set out to make a show from the 2010 DEVOtional, the annual Devo fan event held in Cleveland -- but there is easily enough for 3 shows, so just to make the selecting easier we decided to utilize mostly the DEVO covers done by bands that are also associated with Church of the SubGenius. That narrowed it down some. New songs, collages and DEVO covers by: The Mutant Mountin' Boys, William Devo, The Doktormuzika Project, The Spudboys, Mutate Now, Occupant, Poopy Necroponde, The Amino Acids, Psycho Charger, The Arkhams, Rural War Room, PEVO, Gadgetto, The Large, LeMur, Phantom Burnout, Rev. Bleepo Abernathy and (on the X-Rated Internet version only) Kitty Sneezes. Thanks to Rev. Toth Wilder for producing the DEVO-covers compilation album, Not Necessarily Beautiful But Mutated (2010), from which many of the songs are taken.

Hour of Slack #1283 - 13X-Day Finale: July 5, 7 a.m. Mega-Edit

Some weeks, this show is just thrown together. But this is one of those episodes for which we started gathering clips months ago, and for which much ass was busted in editing. It's our annual "7 a.m. July 5" show, the culmination of all our expectations (and uncannily apt sound bites from other media) regarding "Bob's" Promise of X-Day -- and the subsequent let-down or encouragement, depending on how one sees it. We let the Internet version of this show go on longer than an hour; the censored broadcast version is just under 1 hour and lacks the three profanity-based cuts at the end. Music by 6 Fisted Tails of Connie, Munky Hyv, and Xandy Smith. Main voices are Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, and Rev. Stang. (Note: LOST fanatics will get a kick out of the climax.)

Hour of Slack #1282 - Live 11-7-2010: Religious Pledge Drive Steamroller

We were sent several mysterious and, it turns out, wonderful CDs from new contributors, and (for starts) these various Sons of Negativland form a nifty background for our annual pledge drive show for WCSB-Cleveland. Even after the pledge drive has ended in Cleveland, even if the sorry excuses for listeners have no intention of pledging, the ranting, collages and music in the episode will be better than they deserve. Only the Great Ones who contributed are worthy to hear this; and yet, we allow the rest to hear it anyway. Stang goes completely apeshit in the last half. But remember -- until you pledge, you're just eavesdropping.

Online credit card pledges can be made at http://wcsb.org; the phone number until Nov. 14 is 216-687-6900. (We removed the full number and other details to prevent confusion when this is heard on other stations besides WCSB.)

Hour of Slack #1281 -- Live: Halloween Monster / November Election Special

We don't often do timely shows, but this one is made to be heard before Tuesday, Nov. 2. It's our "Why We Vote" special -- appropriately, recorded on Halloween night of 2010. After some choice clips from past shows and collages concerning the world of monsters and politics, we continue to explore that theme, live in the studio, with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, and Rev. Ivan Stang on blabberlips. We try not to get too clearly or overtly political on Hour of Slack, but in this particular episode, Rev. Stang lets out some steam that he has evidently been holding in for some time. Learn why The Monsters Are Coming to Maple Street and how to stop them.

Hour of Slack #1280 - Great New Music by Various SubGenius Artists

I, Stang got busy with my online SubGenius History/Cult-Running class this week, and we suddenly came into a lot of really great, previously unreleased music, so this is one of those "Sons of Zappa" mostly-music shows that we produce now and then. LeMur, The Large, Sudasana, SlanderBob, and Mr. Rection provided many collages, and our frequent caller Bernard is represented, but mainly it's a new/old Rudy Schwartz Project album -- new to Hour of Slack anyway -- and an incredible CD by some folks we met last X-Day Drill, who assemble ear-ripping music under the name RAINBOW. Consortium of Genius also has a new CD out, with a hymn to Cthulhu on it (with guest SubGenius vocals); Rev. Bleepo Abernathy did a beautiful "Beautiful World" cover; and we nabbed two songs from the movie satire about rock stardom, "Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story." WARNING: after you hear this show, at least one of these songs will be stucking looping in your head as the worst brainworm you've ever had.

Hour of Slack #1279b - Rerun of #903, Philo at 6X-Day Drill

The real episode #1279, a mostly-girls mess from 13X-Day Drill, is so XXX-rated that it can only be distributed on the Internet. We had to send our broadcast stations an alternate 'clean' show, and it's this rerun of #903 from 2004 and the 6X-Day Drill. Only, this is the unclean, profanitized version of what we sent the stations. Some great reporting by Dr. Philo Drummond on the Puzzling Evidence show about his 6X-Day adventure forms the core, with location recordings from the event illustrating or contradicting his memories. Some of our oldest collage tapes from the early 1980s, before Hour of Slack, are included, particularly the UFO-oriented material from Media Barrage #2 (1982).

Hour of Slack #1279 - XXX-Rated SubGirl-Dominated Internet-Only 13X-Day Special

I dunno WHAT we're gonna send the broadcast stations this week -- maybe a rerun -- because there's no way any of the tracks of this episode would make sense if they were censored into being safe for broadcast in the U.S.A. It's all the best bits from 13X-Day Drill that were just too raunchy, philosophically offensive or just plain fucked up to even consider for prime time. Dr. Legume's legendary tale of rapine, which inspired several Church schizms and meme abuses, starts it off. We hear some blistering, wallpaper-peeling rants from several of the sweet little ladies of the Church, including the sailor-mouthed Priestess Pisces, Rev. Susie the Floozie, Popess Pantiara Evokavitch, Rev. Pockets, and Priestess Enshrina. Ministry of Slack is represented with a great sermon by Rev. Sweetness McGee. Rev. Angry Larry tears reality a surrealistic new asshole, and Rev. Panik ends the show with a bizarre a capella torch-blues-Elvisoid original SubGenius song. An epic spazz doktor duet with DJ Shaver and Pisces, "DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE," with Many-Fisted Tails of Connie, is interspersed amongst the shouted word performances.

Hour of Slack #1278 - Leftovers of Involuntary Slack

This episode has a little bit of everything: new music and old (DEVO, Rudy Schwartz Project, Jonathan Coulton, Many Fisted Tails of Connie and St. N and Helena Handbasket), a zillion new collages by Fernandinande LeMur, and bits from unheard SubGenius radio: Dr. Sinister's RADIO SYNESTHESIA, old ESO Swamp Radio with Lonesome Cowboy Dave, 13X-Day live radio with Dr. Philo Drummond, Dr. Hal, Rev. Susie the Floozie and Rev. Ivan Stang. And then there's also a mess of other weird stuff.

Hour of Slack #1277 - Live, Oct. 3 2010 - Rachel Maddow Meets "Bob"

Only a small part of this involves Rachel Maddow's TV report involving the Church of the SubGenius. There's music (Rudy Schwartz Project, Jonathan Coulton, Many Fisted Tails of Connie, and Xandy Smith (the actual son of Rev. Stang)), many fine LeMurian collages, Puzzling Evidence, The Large, and a lot of verbiage by Lonesome Cowboy Dave. Host Rev. Stang reviews the movie, MONSTERS, but otherwise, the subject matter is all over the place and off the charts. To tell the truth we can't remember and haven't listened back. We're getting ready for the NYC SubGenius show.

Hour of Slack #1276 - Reality Cross-Section (13X-Day Special #5)

From which direction will the Conspiracy attack? How did SubGeniuses cause so many major wars to be lost? How does an amoeba feel when Rev. Stang is poking it with a needle while watching through a microscope? Will "Bob" Dobbs ALWAYS have customers? Should rich assholes be shown any mercy? All of these questions are answered in live stage radio shows from 13 X-Day Drill. Also: a blazing sermon by Rev. Frotis Pshaw (of Munky Hyv) and cookin' SubGenius hymns from The Mutant Mountain Boys, Many Fisted Tales of Connie, The Devos, and Rev. Tommy Amoeba, the Lowest Form of Life. LeMur and The Large independently handle the collage requirements.

Hour of Slack #1275 - 13X-Day Special #4: Mutants Vs. Normals

This episode sports 46 separate tracks, many of them from a live stage Hour of Slack at 13X-Day with Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, Pope David Lee Black and Rev. Ivan Stang, and some from the best live music of 13X-Day, including a firey Munky Hyv segment. We also proudly premiere a moving new bluegrass "Bob" hymn by The Mutant Mountain Boys, a disturbing song by the son of Stang, and a fistful of collages by The Large, Fernandinande LeMur, Heart Ignition and others. But the real headline act of this episode is author Rev. Ramona Back It On Up 13 reading one of her famous Fairy Tale Friday stories. SubGeniuses go head over heels for her naughty but heady metaphorical parables.

Hour of Slack #1274 - 9-11 & The Raging Yahoos of Yahoo.com (live)

Many of the Pinks who post comments after the news articles on Yahoo.com News are so dense and agitated as to make SubGeniuses look like even-tempered geniuses. For the week building up to 9-11, Rev. Stang copied the dumbest, craziest and angriest from that raging peanut gallery into a giant text file. For this show, he and Princess Wei read aloud from the best-worst of these yahoos of Yahoo, in various character voices, phonetically (to capture the amazing spelling of modern Americans). NONE OF THE COMMENTS ARE INVENTED. All are real. Lonesome Cowboy Dave comments on the comments; collages by LeMur, Pref, Heart Ignition, The Large and Hazel of the Windmills bracket the live section. This show was originally broadcast on WCSB (Cleveland) on September 12, 2010.

Hour of Slack #1273 - Rerun of #787 from 2001 - Good ESO Radio & Devival

We're rerunning an especially good oldie this week. There's plenty of new material to edit from last X-Day Drill, the DEVOtional and beyond, but we suffered a small hard drive malfunction at the Slackermansion studios -- nothing too terrible, but it prompted us to embark on a long-overdue and time-consuming Operation Back-Up. This 2001 rerun features recordings from the Golden Age of Hour of Slack/Einstein's Secret Orchestra collaborations (before Prof. Chas Smith died), including a Cleveland devival with classic ESO songs and a Swamp Radio show. There's also some great music by Little Fyodor, The Morning 40 Federation and the now-defunct SubGenius techno band, St. N and Helena Handbasket. It starts out raunchy and dumbly funny with our first airplay of Fat Harry White, then turns gradually more seriously Con-hating.

The week this show was assembled, I, Stang and Princess Wei got married and moved into the Slackermansion.

Hour of Slack #1272 -- XXX-Rated Girls-Only Sex Advice Special

Boy howdy, do we have something DIFFERENT this time. At the 13X-Day Drill, there suddenly evolved an  All-UberFemme Live Hour of Slack Panel. Yes, it is an Hour of Slack featuring ONLY female voices. Well, for the first couple of minutes you'll hear the shift from all-testosterone voices to all-sexy, naughty girl voices. The main Connietite panelists were: Rev. Enshrina (Ministry of Slack), Priestess Pisces, Rev. Pockets (also Ministry of Slack), Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, and Popess Pantiara Evokavitch. And Pisces sings of Connie at the end, with the band 6-Fisted Tales of Connie. Hour of Slack 1271 - Ground Zero Mostel, Live 8/22/10

A live broadcast from WCSB Cleveland in which we dare to tackle the misconstrusions about what happens when "Bob" is "that way," "Down there." The first 20 minutes are brand new collages and songs by Fernandinande LeMur, Rev. Hazel of the Windmills, SlanderBob, The Rudy Schwartz Project, Rev. Norel Pref and Morgan Gutendag. Then (with background music by The Rudy Schwartz Project, The Psycho Skeletons and The Large) Princess Wei R. Doe, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Ivan Stang cover the key issues of our age, such as racism, class division and the controversey over the upcoming NYC devival being held near Ground Zero in a temporary SubGenius Mosque. The show ended with Wei dancing topless around a big bonfire built by her fans in the station parking lot. This was appropriate because August 22 was Go Topless Day.

Hour of Slack #1270 - SubGenius Old Pro Show - Dr. Hal, Dave, Susie, Philo, Stang

13X-Day Drill, July 3, Conspiracy Year 2010 - we recorded an Hour of Slack show on stage before a live audience with Dr. Hal, Rev. Susie the Floozie, Dr. Philo Drummond, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Ivan Stang. Except for Puzzling Evidence, these are the SubGenii to blame for the three hoary SubGenius radio shows that have been on the air for decades -- up to three decades, in fact. That show is intercut with new collages by Rev. Heart Ignition, sermons from 13 X-Day by Rev. D. Lister and Rev. Richard Skull, and a jam/song by 6 Fisted Tails of Connie (Philo, Pisces, Rev. Angry Larry, Rev. Suds Pshaw, Rev. Phil, Rev. Bunny Day on this particular line-up). Upcoming events are also predicted - The NYC Devival (Oct. 9) and the DEVOtional (Aug. 28).

This episode assembled itself from various dope-related contributions by our best collagiasts (including LeMur, The Large and the newly-returned Heart Ignition), mixed with semi-appropriate cuts from the 13 X-Day live events: music, rants, and other mischief. It is a joyous celebration indeed. Munky Hyv, Rev. Jannus, Phat ManDee (three songs!), Tommy Amoeba, Jere Faison and Rev. Crazy Jim Jones are represented. We also hear, despite the taint of slight popularity, somewhat-commercialy-recorded music by DEVO and Jonathan Coulton.

This epsode focuses on the first of the Ask Dr. Hal oracularations at 13X-Day, intercut with songs and collages from DEVO, The Rudy Schwartz Project, Fernandinande LeMur, The Large, Heart Ignition, GoDrex. This especial Ask Dr. Hal show is M.C.ed by Dr. Philo Drummond himself, the First OverMan, chosen tool and principal spokesyetinsyn for J. R. "Bob" Dobbs on this Xistless Version 3 Earth plane.

Collages are by LeMur, The Large, Mr. Rection and Heart Ignition. Subjects covered in live portion: Oil Drill Spills as weapons; dentist drills; X-Day Drills; the Abortion of J. R. Hour of Slack #1266 - 13X-Day Special with Dr. Hal, Philo Drummond & Pisces live

Four live Hours of Slack were recorded at the stage during the 13X-Day Drill, along with three Ask Dr. Hal sessions, five bands and a dozen preachers. The bulk of this episode is the first of the outdoor Hours of Slack, recorded July 1 with Rev. Stang, Dr. Hal, Priestess Pisces and Dr. Philo Drummond. Interspersed with that are impromptu songs by 6-Fisted Tails of Connie (the X-Day Drill jam band) and collages by Lemur, Sweetness McGee and the returned maestro, Heart Ignition. We also hear some clips from the Shanghai Devival, first big SubGenius show in Asia. Praise Pater Nostril for making the 13X-Day recordings. (Jam-band musicians include Rev. Angry Larry (The Amino Acids), Dr. Sinister, Dr. Philo Drummond (The Swinging Love Corpses), Rev. Phil, Rev. Suds Pshaw (Munky Hyv), Priestess Pisces, Rev. Bunny Day, Senator Speck, DJ Shaver and others.)

We returned from 13X-Day Drill (and Starwood Festival, which followed on its heels) with so many hours of great recordings that merely the labeling alone will take a week. Meanwhile, to buy ourselves more editing time, we present one last X-Day related rerun, a classic episode of Rev. Susie the Floozie's "Bob's" Slacktime Fun House from WREK Atlanta, her Post-X-Day Special. It's heartbreaking -- heartbreakingly good. Next week will begin a series of Hours of Slack combining "live" shows we did with Dr. Hal, Philo Drummond and many others, and crazed new bands and ranters, all recorded at the 13X-Day stage, Starwood and environs.

Hour of Slack #1264 - Ultimate Old-School X-DAY Special - Rerun of #534 (1996) We are now off-world (or about to be), and refuse to produce new shows. Instead, we present a beloved oldie. And we are presenting it two weeks early, as we will be either on the Saucers or at Starwood, and won't want to mess with posting shows then. Back in 1996, just before the very first X-Day Drill at Brushwood, I, Stang, assembled this ultimate X-Day collage, song and rant special, utilizing the best UFO-related clips from our old Media Barrage albums (from the 1980s!) as well as the finest new stuff of the time, such as Nenslo's X-Day anthem and Papa Joe Mama's first X-Day sermon. You'll hear the infant voices of Puzzling Evidence, Dr. Philo Drummond, Dr. Hal, all the Churchly old-timers beck when they were mere 30-somethings and even 20-somethings. The brainworm "Snot Mouth Tweedle" by The Rudy Schwartz Project is played at the end, with an incredible cut-up by GoDrex. The rest is rather hyper live yakking by Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Rev. For our first live show in over a month, we plunged head first into BP's Gulf oil eruption, and came out very slick and smelly. If you have a truly sick and depraved sense of humor, this episode will make you feel much better about the ongoing ecocatastrophe. If you are "well adjusted" by normal standards, it will make you feel much, much worse. The show starts with the appropriate collages and music, but then Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in. Between Dave and Stang, the death of the oceans becomes an idiot's playpen of SubGenius end of the world pornography. Think LIFE AFTER PEOPLE but with a laugh track. Hour of Slack #1258 - X-Day as Discussed On Other Radio Shows X-Day XIII is coming up -- Lucky 13. Since X-Day Drill #12 in 2009, your host and prayer partner has been collecting and setting aside all the parts of OTHER folks' shows when X-Day is being discussed. Includes: Stang on the British podcast RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE SITTING NOW and Jack Jett's show on Rational Radio in Dallas; Rev. Susie the Floozie's "Bob's" Slacktime Fun House with Puzzling Evidence as a guest; The Puzzling Evidence Show with Dr. Hal, Phineas Narco and Dr. Philo Drummond; there's also a poem by Nenslo, read by Dr. Hal at 12X-Day. The real killer however is Papa Joe Mama's sermon from the 2002 (or 2003?) devival in Hamburg, Germany, entitled, "Five Minutes To Midnight"! Also featured are frequent caller Bernard, The Crazy Numbers Guy, and Paula Dupree, the Ape Woman. Actually it is her mad doctor, John Carradine, doing the talking. Hour of Slack #1257 - SubSermons & Hymns New and Old (old from #371, 1992)

This episode mixes parts of an oldie (#371 from 1992, which is not yet in the ancient show archive) with new bits and a great Papa Joe Mama devival sermon from 2002. New is a Psycho Skeletons song, "Racist Lesbians on Drugs," and some LeMur and Mr. Rection. From 1992 comes more God-killing music by The Rudy Schwartz Project as well as Churchly bands The Swinging Love Corpses and The Klingons/Cloaking Device (from Germany), and Indian Rope Burn. Stang reads shocking cult news and some rants from REVELATION X (in progress at that time) with background music by Jay Cotton/ZomboFropLand. Vintage Puzzling Evidence, Dr. Philo Drummond and Dr. Hal are also represented.

Hour of Slack #1256 - Kill for God

Some old, some new. We resurrect an all-time great rant by Father Joe Mama, and a lot of music from newly-reissued Cds by Rev. Joe Newman (The Rudy Schwartz Project). Also, plenty of new music, from Amit Lissack, Slobberbone, The Large, Jonathan Coulton and The Psycho Skeletons. Lemur does his usual, and near the end is a tour-de-force of editing by Rev. Susie the Floozy in which she turns a shout-out to everyone on [secret SubG newsgroup not shown here] while turning it into a charming story of the denizens of Kern's Holler.

Hour of Slack #1255 - Rerun of #394 (1993) - Book Rants on God

A very good old-timey rerun from 1993 or so, with much basic SubGenius sermonizing (Stang reading from REVELATION X, which was then in progress) with some marvelous collages by various folks, great music (including John Bartles), a radio play from BRAIN ROT RADIO THEATER (L.C. Dave, Prof. Chas and Psycho Pathfinder on WCSB Cleveland) and a G. Gordon Gordon rant, all of it sounding remarkably timely considering its age.

Hour of Slack #1254 - The Men Who Stare at the Vulcan Jedi Mentat's Lawn Mower Vs. the Space Goats (Live 2010-4-25)

After some audio collage and special movie dialog clips, and three unusual anti-drug songs, it's solid blabberjawed yakdomness from Rev. Ivan Stang, Princess Wei R. Doe and insidious caller Lonesome Cowboy Dave. The general overall theme is, as the title indicates, The Men Who Stare at the Vulcan Jedi Mentat's Lawn Mower versus The Space Goats. Sub-subjects: sex, the fear of homophobes, remote viewing, drugs, the Yeti Taint, X-Day, the possibility that extraterrestrials are diseases, and the new DEVO album.

Hour of Slack #1253 -- Bowel-centric Special

Two talk shows are interspersed with collage and music. One talk show is Puzzling Evidence (KPFA Berkeley) with Dr. Philo Drummond and Dr. Hal, talking about digestive disorders. The other is Rational Radio (Dallas) host Jack E. Jett & friends interviewing Rev. Stang. Music is by Rev. Max Slack, Rev. Joe Newman's The Rudy Schwartz Project, Perry-Kingsley, The Attery Squash with Rev. Diva Schematic, Thigmotactic (Rev. Mark Hosler), Rev. Phat Mandee and Tommy Amoeba, Slack-T, plus clips from ZZZ Top and The Fleischer 1939 movie of "Gulliver's Travels." Collages are by Mr. Rection, The Large, The Bishop, Rev. Stang, and, of course, the great Mr. Fernandinande LeMur.

Hour of Slack #1252 -- Live 2010-4-11 - Yeti Diversity

Collages and music in the first 20 minutes and the last 5. In between, the rest is a yakathon by Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Lonesome Rev. Stang (Princess Wei was busy elsewhere that night). SubGects covered: X-Day - the horror of Yahoo News Comments sections - Dave's Mind Sap - Poles grieve - Nuclear Beer: prophecy fulfilled! - There's Nothing You Can Do That "Bob" Doesn't Want You to Do - NoThink  and BreakMind - X-Day got Farked - Computer memory and bad memories are cheap, good memories are dear - Devil in the Monastery - Audtralopithecus in WalMart - Yeti Diversity - Mutation - Pull the Wen Over Your Own Eye - Everybody gets an Empire eventually. Music by Pilgrim peakeasy, Jonathan Coulton. Much LeMurian collage.

Hour of Slack #1251 - Rerun of #787 (2001 A.D.) -- All-Purpose Show

We'll probably be back live next week, or at least with a new edited show, but this month we've been finishing up Stage One of the huge secret SubGenius project that we so love to hint about... and we're behind on promoting X-DAY, the annual SubGenius festival to end this planet's dominance by humans, and to replace it with the duminance of SubGeniuses. This particular episode owes much to the late Prof Chas Smith's ESO Swamp Radio on WCSB Cleveland, which was practically half of Hour of Slack for about a decade. Starts out raunchy (with Fat Harry White), then goes to somewhat more serious Conspiracy-hating. Music is by Little Fyodor, St. N and Hellena Handbasket, Einstein's Secret Orchestra, Lamprey Systems, The Morning 40 Federation, Artemia Salina.

Hour of Slack #1250 - Communications Theory Special - Live March 28, 2010

Much ground is fertilized by the droppings from this live show. Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Wei, and Stang signify on: Communication theory; New Age military and The Men Who Stare at Goats; Church confusion and the scraping-off of Skull Barnacles; the death of the oceans; the horror of reading Yahoo News comments; locust plagues; the magic urinal; Southpark; subliminimal messages imbedded in the novel FLICKER; media thoery; The Ded Dave Show; wikipedia, and the nature of Slack. New songs and collages by: The Rudy Schwartz Project, LeMur, Amit Lissack, The Lone Star Tall Boys, Rev. Bozowolf, Mr. Rection, The El Queso All Stars.

Hour of Slack #1249 - Rerun of #775 (2001 ESO, Puzzling Evidence, Winterstar)

Your host and prayer partner Rev. Stang is immersed in finishing up Stage Two of a big SubGenius project, so we're falling back on selected, well-aged shows from The Day. This particular one, stored in an oaken keg for 9 years, is the New Year/Last Show (of Y2K) from Puzzling Evidence, Phineas Narco and Dr. Philo Drummond, mixed with a post-Winterstar Swamp Radio from Prof. Chas Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Stang, as well as live Winterstar devival and ESO song recordings. Also: media barrages by Jupiter Research and Rev. Nu-Monet (who we just learned is still alive and well, but in a radically changed clone version since two X-Days ago). A very strange song by Skip & The Elite is also included.

Hour of Slack #1248 - Puzzling Evidence Remix

Best bits from a good all-purpose Puzzling Evidence show from Feb. 26 (on KPFA-Berkeley) form the skeleton of this episode. The "meat" draped onto the skeleton is composed of collages by Mr. F. LeMur (with a smattering fore and aft by The Large) and new songs by Amos Robinson, The Billy Nayer Show (Stingray Sam soundtrack), and Jonathan Coulton. A highlight is Dr. Philo Drummond's rant about what qualities go into making a real asshole; another is Dr. Hal sermonizing re: Slack. We also include two more clips of Jeremy Davies playing Charley Manson, and two poignant phone messages from Frequent Caller Bernard.

Hour of Slack #1247 - Live Feb. 28, 2010 - Special 'Free Charley' Hour of Slather

Partly due to the recordings running in the background, this live show with Lonesome Cowboy Dave is one of the most INSANE episodes ever. While listening, we recommend headphones, a bike helmet and a bullet-proof vest.

Hour of Slack #1246 - All-"Bob" Hymns & Songs Special

A sneak preview of the seventh CD collection of songs, hymns, and horrible noise experiments dedicated to "Bob," X-Day, or the Church of the SubGenius in general. Contributors include: Drs. 4 "Bob," Rev. Phineas Narco, Rev. Ouroborus Rex, Rev. Norel Pref, Fernandinande LeMur, The Psycho Skeletons, Poo Water Towel, Rev. Selfs Layer, Dr. Gary G'broagfran, Rev. Artemia Salina, Rev. Ivan Stang, Dr. G. Gordon Gordon, Da Binci, Rev. Edfred, Rev. Raymond Lafferty, with many others woven in.

Hour of Slack #1245 - Valentine's Day Bug Porn at Winterstar

This is a rather strange episode, with much material from a really unusual devival. The SubGenius show at the Winterstar Symposium happened to fall on Valentine's Day this year, and the special SubGenius guest was the inventive torch singer Phat ManDee -- and she was accompanied by her husband, Tommy Amoeba. This made for an especially ROMANTIC devival, but the lovey-dovey stuff is considerably tempered by segments about microorganisms (Stang's latest shordurperhobby). So we have an odd mixture of love and science. Songs by Jonathan Coulton, The Psycho Skeletons, and Witch Disco fit in perfectly. Collages by THE LARGE, Sweetness McGee and the great LeMur pepper the mix. There's even some Puzzling Evidence! Also a new sermon about The Conspiracy by Stang, much of it exploiting the latest wit and wisdom of Dr. Onan Canobite.

Hour of Slack #1244 - Rerun of #509, "PAIN" (1995)

We're busy, so we're in reruns. This particular episode, #509 from late 1995, was assembled during a relatively rough week of a rough month of a rough year for your host and prayer partner, Rev. Ivan Stang. It is an unusually PAINFUL Hour of Slack. Imagine that. Nonetheless, cruel and heartless listeners who are not Rev. Stang may find it funny. Some great music helps the poison go down easier. The last half of the episode is collage and ranting by Rev. Susie the Floozy, and a classic sermon by Papa Joe Mama. Both Susie and Papa Joe are experts in REAL pain.

Hour of Slack #1243 - Rerun of #506 - Aug. 1995 Devival with ESO

It's a busy month. So, This Hour of Slack, #1,243, is a rerun of excellent Hour of Slack #506, from September 1995. The highlight is a fine recording of the August 5, 1995 SubGenius Devival at Peabody's in Cleveland, with Einstein's Secret Orchestra, Rev. Stang, and Sister Melodious Chops. Collages in this pre-LeMur show are by Rev. Susie the Floozy and the mysterious Toe Frophauser. Bulldada master Zoogz Rift, Dr. Bizarro and the Disgustos, and GWAR provide music. (This was recorded just prior to our tour with GWAR.) Prank calls to Christian radio shows are peppered throughout this episode.

Hour of Slack #1242 - All Hal Breaks Loose

Once again we pull the best Spouting from The Puzzling Evidence Show, of January 8, 2010, with Puzzling and his guests Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Phineas Narco, Justin Credible and Empress Zoey.  Interspersed with that are dozens of  songs, collages, and god-only-knows-what by Rural War Room, Mark Hosler, Fernandinande LeMur, The Attery Squash, Local Color, Pilgrim Speakeasy, and frequent caller Bernard. We'll bet the Attery Squash song gives you a brainworm.

Hour of Slack #1241 - Live Jan. 24 - The Greatest Buzz Possible This episode was broadcast live from WCSB, Cleveland, on Jan. 24, 2010, the 26th anniversary of the first assassination of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs -- an event which is never acknowledged during the show, out of respect. A slew of Lemur cuts and some Local Color presage a mottered-up mess in the WCSB studio with Rev. Stang, Princess Wei, and the unusually powerful buzz of Lonesome Cowboy Dave. Everything important is covered, thoroughly. Less significant matters are merely touched upon, or skirted. Complete impunity is exercised across the board, and The Conspiracy is baldly exposed. DON'T TELL ANYBODY.

Hour of Slack #1240 - Avatar Meets Puzzling Evidence About half of this episode is yanked from the womb of KPFA-Berkeley, The Puzzling Evidence Show, of January 8, 2010. Puzzling and his guests Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Phineas Narco, Justin Credible and Empress Zoey drag the show across battlefields and through jungles, ever striving to reach "Bob." Or escape him. The movie "Avatar" is discussed. The other half of the show involves music, collages, and music/collages by Rural War Room, Mark Hosler, LeMur, The Psycho Skeletons, Local Color, frequent caller Bernard, Rev. Wilhelm Stahlhelm, and Rev. Outa Spaceman.

Hour of Slack #1239 -- Live 01-10-10 - "Live Yourself to Death" Is Slack wrong? This and many other subjects of crucial interest to SubGeniuses are covered in this hour by Rev. Stang, Princess Wei and Lonesome Cowboy Dave. Includes: Wei retired. Matter over mind. Upcoming SubG events. Take Care of Your Brain. Dr. Legume's heart attacks. Not intelligence but sanity. Internetry. Pump up your sanity. We dropped -- microlife report. Bibleman.com. Old cave-coders, napping out code with flint. Pappy and links. Monsters hear my prayers. Manswers = Ow My Balls. Hour of Slack #1238 - Rerun of #462 (1994) - Work Hate Rants by Susie, Hal, Stang

Rerun of a classic from December 6, 1994 - Hour of Slack #462. Dr. Hal rants on money management and giant crabs, Rev. Susie the Floozy sermonizes on quitting your job from her show (with a great song by her brother's punk band!), an ancient but lively Starwood Festival sermon by Rev. Stang. Includes an amazing Led Zeppelin medley by The Swinging Love Corpses recorded live at DragonCon.
