The SubGenius Hour of Slack Podcast
The Church of the SubGenius Weekly Radio Ministry

This is the second part of that old recording that's not a rerun, because we never ran it uncut and unmarred. This is as close to the master recording off WCSB Cleveland's cassette deck that we'll get. It was recorded July, 1994, right around X-Day 6. Participants on this ESO Swamp Radio episode were host the late Prof. Chas Smith, Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei, and Rev. Ivan Stang.

Speaking of X-Day, we'll be doing a virtual meet-up this week until the Saucers come and take us away. The details will be on subgenius.com if you want to join us on Zoom, starting July 5. We will attempt to record Hours of Slack each afternoon, via teleconference! Starwood festival is also being done that way.

This is not exactly a rerun, but rather a long lost classic, recently unearthed. We found the master recording of an ESO Swamp Radio and Brain Rot Theater show that Stang sat in on while visiting WCSB in Cleveland in July of 19 and 94. We were all young and in our prime, with the FIRE in the BELLY, and it really shows. Bits have been used before on ancient Hours of Slack, but this recording stands alone just fine, possibly much better, and it's a superior reproduction of the original master recording. It was in fact two hours long and we'll probably run the second hour next week. Participants include host Prof. Chas Smith (R.I.P.), Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Princess Wei 'R." D'oh!, Ivan Stang, and several callers including the late Dr. Dark.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION!

Not the same old! Stang couldn't hide from it forever, and directly addresses the BLM situation by describing the setting, set-up and denouement of a (luckily) peaceful demonstration in the small rural town of Glen Rose, Texas. The counter-demonstration was extremely hostile, but took place entirely on obscure local Facebook pages. We gave a lot of thought to the appropriate music to use, which ended up being five weirdly topical (yet kind of old) songs by The Rainmakers, one twelve-minute song by Jimi Hendrix, and some antimusic and ranting from a brand new Doktorband, SubG Kids (High Priestess Poochie, Rev. Katana007, Rev. Negative). LeMur provides the world news.

This remaster of #44 comes from the prehistoric days of 1986, when audio was edited on, at best, 1/4" reel-to-reel tape using a splicer and lots of little reels, and copious paper notes, or else, at worst, two cassette tape decks and a "record-pause" button. Seems like it was somehow... better... oh, well. Along with excellent remastered copies of the otherwise unreleased Media Barrage #8, this also features a then-young Spouting team calling themselves The Rat Cave. THEY WERE GREAT! As heard below. Everything is punctuated by an ongoing rant by the Angry Young Stang about how subversion of the current regime is always itself subverted by being turned into a fashion. AS TRUE TODAY AS IT WAS THEN! Maybe much worse. Also: a choice section of Michael Peppe's rant-masterpiece "Ad," and some pretty disturbing ending thoughts from Roberto de la Rosa, cracked son of David Boone. And Negativland, Nash the Slash, Alan Watts, Oingo Boingo. The good old days. If you're old.

RADIO-SAFE VERSION! (Actually the Internet version is clean too, but longer than one hour.) From the year 2000 comes this remastered Hour of Slack 724 rerun, packed with Slack from ESO Swamp Radio, the XX-Day 1999 devival, Media Barrage 11 on the subject of UFOs, Todd Rundgren "rap" songs, Hemorrhoy Rogers and His 'Roid Boys, Ryanetics, and am amazing string of one-line movie spoilers by Dr. Hal and Puzzling Evidence. This was digitized from the cassette master, which incidentally seemed strangely bass-y after transfer in the ESO Radio sections... according to Deaf Stang's hearing aids, anyway. Frequency correction was applied!
