Hour of Slack #1550 - The Eulogy of Pappy

Rev. Ivan Stang's father, "Pappy," boarded the saucers on Nov. 9 at age 88. This Radio Synaesthesia show was recorded at WCSB-Cleveland about two weeks later, with Stang and Princess Wei joining host Dr. Sinister by phone from Stang Ranch in Stangsville, Texas. Lonesome Cowboy Dave also called in. The discussion covers many other things besides the death of the Stang patriarch, but it included a perfect edit-point for Stang to insert the recording of himself reading Pappy's eulogy to the local Stangsville Methodist church -- a eulogy which Pappy wrote himself! When you hear it, you'll clearly understand how Stang got the way he is. (Although if we had any similar Mammy recordings, it would be clear that both parents made Rev. Stang the SubGenius preacher-man he is today.) We also offer a list of SubGenius prescriptions for Seasonal Affective Disorder -- a list that caused some sensitive Internet humans great butthurt. But SubGeniuses understood.

NOTE: Dr. Sinister did not believe that the last movie starring the late Andy Griffith featured the venerable actor and Mayberry sheriff getting a blowjob. It is true and the name of the movie is "Play the Game."

Hour of Slack #1549 - SubGenius Ultimate Xistlessnessmess Mix Rerun

What are the holidays without reruns? Sappy, nostalgia-provoking reruns on TV are what Chistmas is all about, right? This is the hoary old annual traditional Xmas Re-Rerun of #867 (and 921 and 1026, 1077, 1129, 1236, 1338, 1497, etc.), which was itself a condensation of some ancient year's 3-show "Best of Xmas Sickness" compilation, which were themselves the concentrated best-of from 15 years' worth of previous Xmas SubGenius and other Xmas weirdo collections. Includes over 66 separate tracks/songs/bits! And no, not one bit has been changed in all these years. We are on XISTLESSNESSMESS VACATION from Hour of Slack! (But don't worry, Show #1550 is nonetheless already in the can and will be released soon as an antidote to this one.)

Hour of Slack #1548 - Circus Apocalypse and a SubGenius Wedding

We're back to the Radio Synaesthesia show recorded at WCSB Cleveland the night that the 21st X-Day Drill ended: July 5th of what is obviously not really "2015." Host Dr. Sinister had Dr. Hal and Rev. Stang in the studio, and on the phone, Dr. Philo Drummond, Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, and Lonesome Cowboy Dave, all reminiscing about the so-called "19X-Day" that had just happened. Interspersed with the talk show are edited documentary recordings of the specific events, such as the amazing if stomach-turning sideshow acts by Circus Apocalypse (St. Andrew the Impaled and Rev. David Apocalypse). You can see the photos on subgenius.com. Climaxing the show, as it might be, is a mostly uncut recording of the truly inspiring SubGenius wedding at X-Day of Rev. Faux and Rev. Aster, with music choices provided by Trademark G of ECC, and with a head launching at the end. It's an excellent example of a legal SubGenius marriage and full of helpful hints for beginning Ministers! One might call this Part Two of episode number 1546. There is a Part 3 to come.

Hour of Slack #1547 - A Smorgasbord of Shenanigans

We got a little behind, though some would call it big, so this Hour of Slack is a rerun of 2002's Hour of Slack #825. It's got some great bits from the late Chas Smith's ESO Radio on WCSB, with Chas, Stang and Lonecow Dave off the hook and on the loose. Interspered are some classic bulldada cuts from our ancient album Media Barrage #5. There's ranting by Stang, George Carlin, Hellpope Huey and many nameless crazy Texas preachers, rare music by Walls of Genius (Li'l Fyodor), The Four Letter Words and The El Queso All-Stars, and weird-ass collages that were current back in 2002 and yet still hold true today! For they ring with the Truth of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs and his The Church of the SubGenius. So there.

Hour of Slack #1546x - 18X-Day Instrumental Jams

This Internet-Only special Hour of Slack wasn't sent to the broadcast stations because it's solid instrumental jams from 18X-Day, and SubGenius jam music can be an acquired taste that melts the tongues and ears of the unworthy, or of those with so-called "good" taste. But we figure the musicians themselves, some X-Day attendees, and masochists may want to hear it. There were jams on five nights of the festival, so we had a lot to choose from. None of this music was rehearsed; it's all improvisational jams, some rocking and some jazzing, but all spazzing. It's carefully organized, but not in any order we can explain. There is a sort of general credits-giving at the end by M.C. Priestess Pisces. The one musician who is probably on damn near every track is Rev. Angry Larry, playing the generally most prominent guitar most of the time. Other musicians who were involved most nights include Bishop Stick (mostly on bass), Rev. Rock God (guitar), Rev. Hazel of the Windmills (everything), Rev. Fidd Chewley (on drums a lot), Trademark Gunderson from Evolution Control Committee (custom keyboards), Lord Ferg (bass), Rev. Frodis "Suds" Pshaw (bass, guitar), Dr. Philo U. Drummond (weird machines), Rev. Sinphaltimus Exmortus (throat, drums, guitar), Rev. Shover (bass), Rev 80, Rev. Dildonics, Rev. Aurichio, and DJ Gravity. Note: The MP3 and Ogg Vorbis versions of this paticular show were rendered at a higher resolution than usual, and the show is over an hour, so the file sizes are larger than normal.

Hour of Slack #1546 - 18X-Day - 7 a.m. and The Bobtism

It's back to 18X-Day again for the edited recordings of the horror of 7 am July 5 as well as the happiness of the Bobtism, and some discussion of those events recorded the night of July 5 on Dr. Sinister's show on WCSB Cleveland, Radio Synaesthesia. But we also hear from Father Joe Mama, Mr. F. LeMur, and AVEEE by Rev. Kaosmic "Bob"Cat, as well as Rev. Flamegrape on the very first episode of his new SubGenius show Fugue Segue (on WOZO FM in Knoxville, Tennessee). The star blabberers however are mainly Dr. Philo Drummond, Rev. Stang, Dr. Hal, Dr. Dark, Rev. Susie The Floozie, Princess Wei, and the late Neanderthal Man.

Hour of Slack #1545 - Sacred SubGenius Media Barrage #1, from 1981

Before The Hour of Slack began airing in 1985, we produced thirteen 90-minute albums on cassette tape called Media Barrages. Some of those later became CDs, but not the first one. Tonight we're excerpting Media Barrage #1, edited in 1981, when there were but a few dozen self-declared SubGeniuses on the whole planet. Only about eight or nine of them were on this ancient tape: Rev. Stang, Dr. Philo Drummond, Puzzling Evidence, LIES, Glassmadness, Pope Sternodox, Dr. Snavely Eklund, Hellswami Satellite Weavers, Janor Hypercleats, and the late Dr. X. In other words, this was our very first official SubGenius album, made 35 years ago, when the only known Doktor-Subs were in Dallas, Berkeley and Little Rock. Some clips are from the very first appearances of Ivan and Philo on local Dallas talk radio, in early 1980. Church slogans, one-liners and concepts that had gotten old for some of us -- stuff that we now make fun of Bobbies for repeating -- miraculously sound fresh again, when heard being said FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!

The old TEXT LOGS of these ancient Media Barrages, scanned from the crumbling Xeroxes, can now once again be seen!

Hour of Slack #1544 - LNI TORTURE Special

We were called away suddenly on family business, and our live WCSB show was by necessity a pledge drive last weekend, so for the other stations we're re-running a choice "Bob's" Slack Time Funhouse show from WREK-Atlanta by THE LYMPH NODE INSTITUTE -- specifically their 2006 episode on the theme of TORTURE. Unlike Hour of Slack, they use not only scripts (!) but music by bands who have actual commercial CDs in stores and contracts with Conspiracy music industry companies! In this episode there is also a lot of prime Negativland.

Hour of Slack #1543 - Philo and Hal, Gorillas and Demons at X-Day

It's like the hideous mutated offspring of The Hour of Slack force-mated with The Puzzling Evidence Show! Dr. Philo Drummond, Overman First Degree, and the famous Dr. Hal of Ask Dr. Hal were both at Wisteria for 18X-Day Drill, and this was the very last of the live radio shows recorded at Caffeina's Café in 2015. You can see an extremely detailed log of the subjects covered -- plus the timestamps of all the cusswords! -- at the Hour of Slack page on subgenius.com (click on any show title). Suffice it to say that everything both cool and uncool, holy and unholy, is covered. And uncovered.

Hour of Slack #1542 - The Trumpinator

We took a break from taking a break, and had big fun doing a good old-fashioned live show with Lonesome Cowboy Dave. First there's a fine mess of new collages by Rev. Christian Blatter, a Minute of Slack (Baby Stang in 1984), and some music by Rural War Room. Also, Stang runs an amusing little experiment to see what happens when one replaces the word "fuck" with the word "trump" in many types of sentences. As for the live part, we had so much fun that we don't rightly recall what-all we said! You'll have to tell us. All we know is, it was definitely fun. There may have been something about politics. There was definitely something about "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius.

Hour of Slack #1541 - Deconstruction of Rock Band Interpersonal Dynamics

DON'T LISTEN TO THIS! It could harm your sensibilities. Seriously. We worked like the very dickens editing this material to make it palatable, but we still have mixed feelings about this particular episode. From the introduction: "... this won't be a typical episode. The first song you'll hear, by Andrew the Impaled, is a regular type of song, but after that we'll be hearing excerpts from other SubGenius bands, all recorded live at 18X-Day, but all involving much rock band member PATTER that is, if not of a completely sarcastic and satirical nature, actually very sincerely dumb and horrible. It is an exploration of what we call "doktor music" -- not always easy on the ears, but always REVEALING of the sheer vanity inherent in any performing band. We'll hear arguments between members of Drs. For Wotan, and 6 Fisted Tails of Connie, with some actual music included; we'll even hear Rev. Angry Larry of The Amino Acids teach the band The Coming of the Giant Germs his trick for remembering chords for rock songs by spelling out WORDS with the letters representing each note. (You'll HATE the tune we call "BGB DGBB!") Finally, and perhaps climactically, we'll hear some off the cuff improvisational parodies whipped out BETWEEN bands by our M.C., Priestess Pisces."

Hour of Slack #1540 - Ask Dr. Hal at 18X-Day with Philo Drummond

"What toothpaste does the one dentist out of ten recommend?" "Why is Dr. Kleiner always thinking about sex and reproduction?" "What was the first recorded case of butthurt?" "What question has any meaning when X-Day is only two days away?" "What is the best key for doktorbands?" "Which aliens will we meet, from nicest to meanest?" "Will sex with one's sister continue the mutant race?" "Why do they call them 'hot dogs'?" "Which extraterrestrial beings are the Xists?" "What pheromone attracts Yetis?" "Okay, what the fuck are we doing?" You'll be surprised at Dr. Hal's answers, we promise. Other subjects that came up include the Confederate battle flag, MySpace vs. Facebook, the secrets of Jesus and Judge Punch, rain, and new SubGenius babies. At the beginning of the show, Philo and Hal stall well while waiting for Stang to emerge from the Portable Sweat Lodge. During the course of the show Dr. Hal recites three poems, including a Walt Whitman. Thanks to Dr. Hal, this episode will probably increase your intelligence -- but not so much as to disqualify you from the Church of the SubGenius.

Hour of Slack #1539.5_XXX - 18X-Day For Hard-Core Subs Only

We do not recommend using this second not-for-broadcast X-Day special as a recruitment tool for potential new SubGenius cultists, not because of the cussing, of which there is actually not that much, but because it is very atypical. The first half has all the "good" stuff and the second half has all the, er, challenging "doktor" material, which is heavy on the inside jokes and in some places of borderline acceptable audio quality. You might say this is a "You Had to Have Been There" episode for people who were there or who THINK they would have WANTED to be there. Rants by Rev. Faux, Sexmortus and Pisces; songs by Rev. Andrew Genus and St. Andrew the Impaled; a "comedy skit" by Rev. Susie the Floozie and Rev. Stang; and a bunch of screaming over live jam tunes by 6 Fisted Tails of Connie. Some sample song titles: "Sand In His Vagina," "Anal Fissure Tissue," "The Queer in You," "Hard Metal Dick Core," "Jack Off for "Bob"." Dedicated to the whole amazing fuck peas concept, let there be no doubt of it.

Hour of Slack #1539 - 18X-Day Autopsy #3 - rantjams

Listening to this episode is exactly like being at an X-Day Drill! Therefore you're going to need suntan lotion, bug spray, ear protectors, a snakebite kit, and bear repellent before you push PLAY. Starring The Neanderthal Man (1953)! -- along with rants and/or music in praise and/or hatred of "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius. Music includes new ACTUAL SONGS by St. Andrew the Impaled, Rev. Andrew Genus, The Giant Germs and Six Fisted Tails of Connie, as well as some hellishly fevered jamming with rant-overs by DJ Gravity and Rev. Fidd Chewley. Dr. Hal does T. S. Eliot, Drs. 4 Wotan Reunited does "Louie Louie" and "Would You Tell Me If My Face Was On Fire?" Rev. Grill Ninja delivers a sobering but not sober rant; Pisces manufactures lyrics on the fly while Rev. Angry Larry, Bishop Stick, "Suds," Rev. Rock God, Rev. Hazel of the Windmills, and a whole gang of other idiots manufacture drivin' jazzdada jams alongside. There's even a Bowie cover at the end!

Hour of Slack #1538 - Special Guest Philo Drummond @ X-Day

"My destiny was to be like Igor, throwing rocks down on people and leading monsters around." Philo Drummond, Ivan Stang, and Dr. Hal rant together, recorded at 18X-Day in one fell take on Friday, July 3, "2015." It's like a glimpse backstage inside the uncircumcised minds of the uncircumscribed SubGenius forefathers and their foreskins circa 1983. Oddly, these mighty forefathers probably sound more like nerds than gods, but hey. We didn't call it Church of the Genius, now did we? Hour of Slack #1537.5 XXX - 18X-Day Internet-Only Special

The X-Rated Internet-Only shows are always the best. They're certainly the easiest to censor, anyway. And if they're way longer than one hour, SO WHAT? This one has many of our very favorite moments from 18X-Day. NOT SAFE FOR TWERPS! Starts with Rachel Weirdagain's X-Day song, some Kaosmic BobKat tomfuckery, a throat-ripping rant by Pisces about ADVERTISING, TWO count 'em TWO more filthy old timey songs by Wei and WeiMawMaw, ""Bob" Is All Up In You" rant-jam with DJ Gravity & the Fuck Peas Band. Then: Andrew the Impaled's new song, "Fuck It," Pisces on pooping and fuckery, Lord Angry Larry's new dance craze tune "Do the Hairball," Pisces and the jammers jamming it up the Con's ass, some trivia about The Shitty Beatles ("Bob's" early Wotan band with Ronald Reagan), a comparison between the new live version of Drs. 4 Wotan's "Split the Anus of a Moonie Now" and the 1980 original, more Kaosmic fuksinging, and finally Exmortus crooning "Kill the Pinks" and the Baby Bear/Pisces Audience Hate Song. You'll "lak ta shit!"

Hour of Slack #1537 - Doktor Bands and Pants

We have here 18X-Day Cross Section #2. It climaxes with Evolution Control Committee's world premiere performance of a 20-minute one-of-a-kind collage-concert on the subject of... pants. Because let's face it -- pants are funny. Building up to that are all-new rants and music, including St. Andrew the Impaled's new song "Happy Stick," a great Rev. Fidd Chewley rant, an incredible rant-jam with DJ Gravity, "Sweet Home on the Saucers," some more Drs. 4 Wotan reunion with the StangDoe Drummond-Kaosmic families, and Pisces' GREAT "Eager Puppy Bobbies" sermon. The music is mostly 6-Fisted Tails of Connie, the X-Day jam band -- including Rev. Angry Larry of The Amino Acids, Bishop Stick, Rev. Rock God, Rev. Hazel of the Windmills, Rev. Fidd Chewley, Trademark G from Evolution Control Committee, Rev. Sinphaltimus Exmortus, Rev. Shover, Rev 80, Lord Ferg, Rev. Suds Pshaw, Dr. Philo Drummond OVERMAN, and on vocals Pisces, Fidd Chewley and DJ Gravity.  Praise "Bob."

Hour of Slack #1536 - 18X-Day Cross Section #1

This is an unusually exciting and variegated episode because it is the first of the X-Day Cross Section shows -- that is, a "best of" the many ranters and musicians who went on stage at 18X-Day. There are sermons by Rev. Fidd Chewley, Grill Ninja, Bishop Stick, Pisces and others; a NEW song by Andrew the Impaled, and a great "oldie" by Rev. Andrew Genus; lots of 6-Fisted Tales jamming, including one jam with a rap song by DJ Gravity ("Don't 'Frop with "Bob""), and, most horrible of all, "If I Can't Whup It I'll Go Down" by the reunited Drs. 4 Wotan (starring the Stang-Drummond-Wei-BobKat families). If only we'd had Ed Sullivan to introduce the acts. It's quite the variety show. NOTE: The digit formerly known as "The Pinky" is henceforth to be called "The Digger."

Hour of Slack #1535 - Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie the Floozie

This features Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie the Floozie, recorded July 2nd at the X-day Drill of this year that THEY call 2015. It's a lively discussion of everything nerdly and cool, although the highlight of it is a truly incredible duet sung by Princess Wei and her 85-year-old Mom ("weiMawMaw") of very naughty song! For a week now, however, I, Stang, have been working with the OTHER kinds of audio from X-Day, the bands and ranters and, er, spontaneous happenings and shenanigans. Praise "Bob," there are four main nights' worth of such entertainment, and MOST of it, I can now confidently report, sounds GREAT. By that I mean the content is good and there is a decent recording. Sometimes I have 3 or 4 choices of different ways a given song was recorded, so there's a lot of comparing and selecting, and it makes my ears and file-naming fingers tired, but hopefully next week we can start playing the crazy rants and drivin' 3-note jams, having sweetened them up and made them palatable. At least half of the best stuff will have to be used on special Internet-only shows, because there's just no way it could work on broadcast radio in the USA. We would all go to jail unless we died laughing first. At the end of tonight's show, Dr. Hal lists all of the acts and actlessnesses in question, so, you'll see what I mean. We had us one action-packed X-Day Drill. Tonight's particular hour however was all recorded in one swell frop and is relatively laid back. Praise "Bob."

Hour of Slack #1534 - Make Dobbstown Grate Again

We took a break from the canned X-Day shows for a live show featuring several new audio collage contributors: Dok Cosmak, Soren & Dr. Lanulos, and Dr. Italics; there's also new music by The Fantastic Plastics and The Psycho Skeletons. We also introduce a new feature, "Kids Say the Dangdest Things," this time featuring little Donnie T., age 7. The rest is the ever-morphing conversation with Lonesome Caller Dave. Stang peevishly addresses his numerous pet peeves. Conservatives, old hippies, and Zappa fans with thin skins might want to avoid this episode. The way the term "P.C." has flip-flopped is explored as is the problem of insane would-be domestic terrorists trying to explain everything on the SubGenius Foundation message-phone. Then everything else is explored or at least trivialized.

Hour of Slack #1533 - Slack Cheese

Rev. Susie the Floozy and Rev. Faux join Dr. Hal and Rev. Stang for the first of two shows recorded at Wisteria on Thursday, July 2nd. Subjects discussed include the many activities that a Tyrannosaurus cannot do because of his tiny arms. (It's sad, really.) Other topics include weaponized war goats, self-aware cussing parrots, Sarah Palin and remote viewing, "Bob" suppositories, porn faucets of the Internet (amateur vs. pro), and The Conspiracy. Possible faults with SubGenius paths to success and riches are cautiously broached. Also, we hear a thankfully brief live clip of the third song ever performed by the band Poo Water Towel -- a cover of The Doktorz 4 "Bob" Theme.

Hour of Slack #1532 - St. Byron Werner and Rural War Room

The great bulldada band Rural War Room came from Little Rock to Cleveland to perform at the 2015 DEVOtional. One of the members of Rural War Room is our old (and we do mean old) pal, St. Byron Werner, a very long-time SubGenius contributor of graphics, music, audio collage, you name it. He's also the originator of the musical genre term, "Space Age Bachelor Pad Music." After the devival we had him in the WCSB studio to rant and spin some whacky tunes by Rural War Room (incuding two "songs" recorded at the DEVOtional the night before) as well as other material from his very bizarre collection.

This is the first Hour of Slack recorded on the second day of the 2015 X-Day Drill, with Rev. Susie the Floozy taking Slot 3 of our "studio" on a picnic table in an outdoor café at Wisteria Community campground. Sadists will enjoy Stang's struggles to make the primitive studio work. The Hitler Testicle Song's rare Verse 2 is recited. Classic and unclassic badfilms are discussed by experts Dr. Hal and Rev. Susie. At one point, Rev. 80 presents Stang with a package of 40 original art pieces, which so surprise the three hosts that they briefly describe each and every one of them. Hour of Slack #1529 - Tuesday at X-Day with Dr. Hal, Rev. Baby Bear

We record two live Hours of Slack each day at the X-Day Drills, and this is the second one from the first day, with Rev. Baby Bear taking Slot 3 of the 3-slot Tarzan's Radio Station "studio" -- which is on a picnic table in an outdoor café at Wisteria Community campground. This particular episode sounds more like normal radio because we were deliberately being stupid with "jock radio sound effects" like whistles and squeak-dildoes. Baby Bear and Hal try to be upbeat despite Stang's constant dour doomsayings and criticisms; nonetheless, it is a real nerd-out, with endless asides about old TV shows, comic books, and gaming. The discussion occasionally rises to lofty peaks, only to be immediately dragged down into the mud repeatedly. TYPICAL! One saving grace of this episode is that it has really gorgeous background music, from the coolest of sources. We're still hard at work organizing and editing the recordings of ranters and bands, but those will be forthcoming in good time.

Dr. Hal, Rev. Stang, the Lonesome Cowboy, and a mess of callers continue as guests on the second part of Dr. Sinister's Radio Synaesthesia from June 28, just before 18X-Day. The list of subject matters covered (on the text log at subgenius.com) is a couple of pages long, but as you might guess, both dinosaurs and low budget old sci fi movies are covered, along with eternal verities, inspirational real-life anecdotes, and a lot of smart-assery. The Paleo Diet and flying saucer sightings also get the treatment. And Rev. Ivan Stang once again reverts to his alter ego, the shriekingly angry teabucker redneck Yahoo-commenter inside him.

Hour of Slack #1527 - Tarzan's Radio Station #1 with Priestess Pisces

Dr. Hal and Rev. Stang, joined by Priestess Pisces and then Rev. Baby Bear, batten down the hatches and face the weather for this year's first show before the live SubGenius audience at Wisteria Community campground, at the beginning of 18 X-Day, which turned out to be the 20th X-Day Drill. WE DID NOT KNOW THAT AT THE TIME, however. To us it was but a scant few days before the end of the world for all humans, and the beginning of the Beginning of the New World for all SubGeniuses. So we were pretty excited! Technically, this show was recorded June 30th, "2015," starting at 2 p.m. As always, a detailed log of the discussion can be found at the Hour of Slack section of subgenius.com.

Hour of Slack #1526 - ROBOTS MARRYING BOWLING BALLS!

"Pull the Pork Over Your Own Eyes." We returned, alive, from both the X-Day Drill and Starwood Festival, with 20-some-odd hours of recordings. The sorting and editing of all that audio will take some time, so for this episode we're taking the easy way out by stealing Dr. Sinister's show on WCSB Cleveland, Radio Synaesthesia, from June 28, "2015." Dr. Hal, Rev. Stang, Princess Wei and Lonesome Cowboy Dave were all guests, along with a type of creature that The Hour of Slack rarely attempts to domesticate: CALLERS. And this is only the first half of Dr. Sinister's two-hour show!

Hour of Slack #1525 - Return from X-Day Drill #20, Damn It

Sorry. 18X-Day turned out to be the 20th X-Day Drill. Life goes on, darn it. This episode is from July 5, "2015," when Rev. Stang and Dr. Hal made it back to the Cleveland radio station of WCSB just in time after driving in from the Ohio Outback. Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in and is given a rough account of the events of that tumultuous week of SubGenius events building up to our seemingly annual anticlimax. It was an exciting week indeed, during which we recorded many great jams and rants, as well as nine "live" Hours of Slack -- all of which will trickle out weekly as we edit the footage down using the secret techniques of Time Control.

Hour of Slack #1524 - Dr. Hal Readies Us for X-Day

The late Prof. Chas Smith talks to us from his Escape Vessel; the X-Day Rock Song Montage; and Dr. Hal joins StangDoe and the lonesome cowboy in the WCSB studio to say farewell to Earth Farm One and its unsaved inhabitants. Hal keeps trying to do nice, fancy talk; Stang keeps going all redneck on him. Hal reads from old Sub rants (reprinted in Lee Cipher's dissertation) but Stang keeps reverting to chimp instinct imitations of peckerwoods he reads in the Yahoo news comments.

Hour of Slack #1523 - Farewell to Phil Austin

This episode of The Hour of Slack is dedicated to the late Saint Phil Austin of the Firesign Theatre, who boarded his escape saucer June 18, 2015. Featured are some Austin-centric clips from one Feb., 1970 Firesign Theatre Radio Hour Hour, followed by a sometimes touching discussion of how critical The Firesign Theatre was to the Church of the SubGenius. Stang, Dave and Doe also relect upon the influences of other great inspirators of SubGeniusdom, like the underground comics, Zappa, Harryhausen etc. The scandalous question of just how much pot has been smoked on the air over the years is addressed. Also, we are very excited about X-Day and Starwood.

Hour of Slack #1522 - Stang Invents the Wheel

Readings from THE BOBLIOGRAPHON, new collages by new contributors, a song by Charleston Okafor, some Puzzling Evidence, and a whole mess of signifying. Not a small mess, but a very large and prolonged mess of signifying. Inspired by doodles on a napkin, Rev. Ivan Stang single-handedly invents an entirely new science and technology from scratch. May be over the heads of non-scientists and poebuckers. It was certainly over Stang's head.

Hour of Slack #1521 - The Planet X-Foliates

According to THE BOBLIOGRAPHON (which Stang reads from briefly), "Bob" put it in Ayn Rand! -- the quest for Slack, that is. But she didn't appreciate it. The rest of this episode is completely censored!

Hour of Slack #1520 - What is a Hipster?

This time Stang picks on hipsters. However, many SubGenii may be upset at the way Stang defines "hipsters," because it probably includes them. It starts with readings from the Hip Wimps section in The Bobliographon (the rare 2006 SubGenius book) and then when Dave calls in, it gets even worse. A learned discussion of Malthusianism ensues as well as the hitting-on of other topics such as the nature of thought, dumb-ass rednecks, the movie Kung Fury, and hateful old Christian nuts. Luckily there's also music and collage by LeMur, The El Queso All-Stars, Artemia Salina, Rev. Bern Brijis, and Rev. Max Slack, plus 15 minutes of compressed Puzzling Evidence with Dr. Hal and Dr. Drummond. The background music during live bits is all by "ANNIAS," a recent contribution. Unfortunately Annias is occasionally joined by a band that was tuning up in the recording studio next door to the radio studio.

Hour of Slack #1519 - Astrology and Autism

After some Puzzling Evidence, Stang reads three (very) short stories about SubGeniuses, written with the help of PlotGenerator.com. The most recent five or six unarmed-blacks-shot-by-Cleveland-cops verdicts and subsequent non-riots are discussed. Lonesome Cowboy Dave unveils a new song, and the new secret Starwood Festival Special Deal for SubGenii is revealed. Drunken incoherent callers to The SubGenius Foundation phone message machine are discussed. Excess apostrophe adders are cursed. The discussion then veers off into Anti-VaxxerLand and Stang explains his research into astrology as a cause for autism. A general rant about New Age medical quacks follows, and the show closes with a short sermon about the ways that Business Pinks "wryly" express their racism.

Hour of Slack #1518 - Neanderthals, Humans and SubGeniuses

Stangless! Daveless! UnWeied!! Most of this show is excerpted carefully from The Puzzling Evidence Show (KPFA Berkeley, every Friday morning), with guest hosts Dr. Hal and Dr. Philo Drummond, from April 10 2015. It involves detailed cogitations on and known facts related to the relationships between modern humans, SubGeniuses, and Neanderthals. The Denisovans get a little air-time too, for once. It's highly educational! But don't be afraid. There's also music by LeMur, The Bishop, Psycho Skeletons, Max Slack and Rev. Edfred.

Hour of Slack #1517 - The Government Could Take Over at ANY TIME!

Stang lets his Texas accent go hogwild in this one, riding a bucking bronco of Texanism while reading a funny piece by James Moore about Jade Helm 15. Stang also reads a rant by Rev. Fidd Chewley, "What's Gonna Happen to the Church in the Future? (Humbug!)" We hear a new song, "Uberman," by Hombres del Mar, an adaptation of The Brag of the SubGenius. We hear a 10 minute rant-n-blues jam by Einstein's Secret Orchestra with Dave and Stang from 1,000 shows ago, in 1996. Stang reads sex advice to the romantic SubGenius Monster Hunter regarding Mounting. Then, Lonesome Cowboy Dave calls in. Among the issue's discussed: our friend Rev. Onan Canobite's art that was displayed in the infamous Texas Muslim-Hater's Cartoon Show and Botched Terror Attack. Did you know that detailed logs of everything discussed on shows like this are stored in the Hour of Slack section of subgenius.com? Well they are. Just click on any show title and there you'll find painfully detailed notes of each show.

Hour of Slack #1516 - Unicorn Juice

It's COOL HAND CHRIS, not "CHRIS HAND LUKE." That's who did the background music. Stang strangely miscredited it. Other music is by The Mutant Mountain Boys, Max Slack, and Ft. Christopher Tung of VideoGameRapBattles. We're replaying choice bits from Puzzling Evidence Shows these days, starting now. In the live section, Stang reads more from Rev. Lee Cypher's PhD dissertation book about the Church of the SubGenius, plus a poem about "Bob" paraphrased by Ann Glen from THE BOOK OF THE SUBGENIUS. Report on Princess Wei's visit to a NORML rally and other current national news ridiculousness. Much should-have-been-kept-secret Church history and gossip. Someone should put a stop to all this.

Hour of Slack #1515 - SubGenius Breakthrough in Academia

Something new! Stang describes and reads from Rev. Lee Cipher's new SubGenius book: his PHD dissertation "Rhetorical Ripples: The Church of the SubGenius, Kenneth Burke, and Comic Symbolic Tinkering." It's wild! A serious academic look at the Church! Full of big words, but also lots of keen illustrations, with much rare stuff from Stang's online SubG History course at Maybe Logic Academy. After Lonecow Dave calls in, the conversation alters somewhat in nature, as has been known to happen, and becomes a Theological Hotline. Some of it is in reprehensible taste. The show ends with a pretty spectacular new, er, "song" by Rev. Bern Brijis. You would never know from listening to this that Rev. Stang had to repair three different malfunctioning station machines just before this show started.

Hour of Slack #1514 -- The Urinator's Prayer and Schrodinger's Baby

Music by Drs. 4 Wotan, Mutant Mountain Boys, Max Slack, The Psycho Skeletons, Munky Hyv, and Rev. Phineas Narco. Crazy talk by Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Rev. Ivan Stang, Princess Wei "R." Doe, Dr. Howll, and Dr. Philo Drummond. The boys were feeling frisky this evening. Includes a shout-out to rev. peas. Stang also reads some Neal Stephenson and some Bobliographon.

Hour of Slack #1513 - Hate of the Stang Brain

This starts with SubGenius shout-outs by Timothy Leary, the Firesign Theatre, and Penn Jillette, which we put at the beginning for those who wanted to hear the old clips without having to listen to Hours of Slack. Then it's another cross section of best unreleased SubG DoktorMusic of the last few years -- but it's intercut with 1981 recordings of Stang's spontaneous hate rants, recorded in a car while driving to and from crappy jobs in the sweltering Dallas heat. This is the way Stang talked when not being restrained from saying anything that might offend dipshits. The original collection of rants was on a cassette tape entitled "The Hate of the Stang Brain." The great songs are by Munky Hyv, 6 Fisted Tails of Connie (misidentified in the credits by Stang on the show, who was rendered feeble-minded by anger that night), Andrew the Impaled with his uberclassic "Saucer Built for One," The Mutant Mountain Boys, and Rev. G. Don Trubey.

Hour of Slack #1512 - The Poor Picked-On Christians

Whooo-doggies, this one should hopefully piss somebody off. It was Easter and SubGeniuses had been writing and posting some pretty hot rants on the Scrubgenius forum, and Stang got to reading them on the air, including "Slack Is" by Rev. Dr. Shoggoth and "Easter is Freedom Day" by Rev. Biggerstaff. The first half is "New Old Bobsongs Best-Of, continued" with music by The El Queso All Stars, Max Slack, The Large, Jere Faison, Rev. Wilhelm Stahlhelm, The Mutant Mountain Boys, Phat ManDee and Rev. Du8. Once Dave calls in and it goes live, Stang, who had become somewhat irritable during the week due to reading the news nonstop, releases the Crazy Preacher Kraken against "Tealiban" Christians who have lately been playing the Oppressed Victim Card with the help of the most popular "news" networks. It's so sad that ignorant fat white Christian right-wing poebucker macho men are such an oppressed minority these days. Let's all weep for 'em.

Hour of Slack #1511 - "Bob"songs and God's Darwinism

First half: a sampling of the best SubGenius-made Bobsongs and hymns that we're compiling for a series of albums spanning Church music from 2008 to the present. Contributors include The Mutant Mountain Boys, Lost Souls Inc., Christian Blatter, The Swinging Love Corpses, Lonesome Cowboy Dave, Heart Ignition, Brainleak, Chas Smith, LeMur, Poo Water Towel and the great Rev. Bill T. Miller, King of Slack. Second half: SMOTE BE IT, BABY; If Ya Got 'Em, Smote 'Em. Lonesome Cowboy Dave and his babysitters, Stang and Doe, tackle the most profound problems facing humanity and SubGeniusdom today, such as baldness.

Hour of Slack #1510 - Choice Cuts of Puzzling Evidence + ToonTunes

Lots of new music in this (Bern Brijis, Steev Inglish, Amoeba Knievel, Joe Zeziorski, Psycho Skeletons) and a truly gut-splitting sermon about Excremeditation by Dr. G. Gordon Gordon, but mostly it is some "Best of Puzzling Evidence" as selected by Rev. Baby Bear and Rev. Stang. The main spouters are Dr. Hal and Dr. Philo Drummond, and they do some killer verbal riffs about Church doctrine as well as a science lesson that you'll never forget, especially if you google the images they suggest!

Hour of Slack #1509 - SubGenius Rants 'n Bands 'n Thangs

The WCSB studio phones were broken this night -- and so was the whole studio! Yet we broadcast anyway. The first half of the show features one song each by the bands that will perform at the March 21 Winterstar Ball in Cleveland: Rev. Phat ManDee, Muruga Booker and the Cosmic Hoedown band, Steev Inglish, Brian Henke, Mayan Ruins and Sister Melodious Chops (the band Wei is in). (The Ball is a benefit for ACE/Starwood and the late Jeff Rosenbaum.) The second half is Stang reading rants by Phineas Narco and The Good Rev. Roger, and twenty solid minutes of uncut Puzzling Evidence Show with Dr. Philo Drummond and Dr. Hal, with a very interesting discussion of the ins and outs of managing a sperm bank.

Hour of Slack #1508 - Creating God in a Test Tube

Body Image and Daylight Savings Time: Space Control Vs. Time Control

We were feeling frisky this time, possibly because of the Daylight Savings Time change that happened the night before. The opening 15 minutes includes some collages by a new contributor, Rev. Carlton, and a classic Father Joe Mama rant. "The LUV of "Bob." Also, the Wolfman gets counselling in a clip from THE HOUSE OF DRACULA. But then we go live, and Dave calls in, and it gets pretty darned cosmical and Time-Control-y. Stang reads a short rant on DST by Rev. Zafod. The marvels of Creationism are discussed at length. Dave reveals that he has the DNA of Jesus in him, which leads to a discussion of possibly isolating that God gene, cloning God, then sending Him back in time to stop the Big Bang from happening and thus allowing PURE Slack to continue forever. Or something. Oh and TUROK, SON OF STONE is fully analyzed. Yet another British hard rock version of THE BRAG OF THE SUBGENIUS is played.

Hour of Slack #1507 - Project Archivist interviews Ivan Stang

We took a break to play this pre-recorded episode of somebody else's show! It was their idea, too. Last week Rev. Stang was interviewed for a podcast called PROJECT ARCHIVIST (projectarchivist.com). Since it isn't a SubGenius show, Stang actually EXPLAINS the Church of the SubGenius, "Bob" Dobbs, and everything else important. It's completely different from the "normal" Hour of Slack in that in this one, Stang barks almost the whole time, WITHOUT DAVE! There's some Lemurian collagery first, and then 48 minutes of the Project Archivist show. A song by Popess Pantiara and a Steaming Sack of Slack close the show.

Hour of Slack #1506 - Onan's New Sermon Meets Lonesome Cowboy Dave

At first it's a fairly "normal" show (by Hour of Slack standards anyway). Then, seemingly out of desperation, Stang starts reading ONAN CANOBITE'S DECEMBER 2014 SERMON. For 20 minutes, the show alternates between Stang reading chunks of the great ONAN SERMON and Dave doing his patented surrealist extemporaneizing -- altogether, an excellent combo of clever writing and pure Spouting. At the climax, the worst "Bob" song in the world is played! We apologize for NOTHING!

Hour of Slack #1505 - Through the Trapdoor

"Things haven't really gotten any worse -- just YOU!" That was one of the cheery things that was said during the live part. For the first 22 minutes, however, it's a 35-track collage of everything from mean one-liners denouncing Stang to mind-blowing fake commercials by Rev. Bleepo Abernathy. (As always, see the track list at subgenius.com's Radio section for the endless details.) Lots of bits by LeMur, The Large, Norel pref (from the olden days) and there's even a song by Stang & Wei's grandsons! It would all be charming were it not so sick. Come to think of it, the live part delves into some pretty darned sick subjects indeed. This is one of those shows where you hear Wei say "Gross!" a lot.

Rev. Ivan Stang and Princess Wei 'R.' Doe went searching for America, and found the Salton Sea. After some great musicollage with Lemur, Timothy Leary, Rev. Bleepo Abernathy, Glassmadness, GWAR, Nenslo, ZZ Top, and The Rudy Schwartz Project, Stang and Doe describe their travel adventures to Lonesome Cowboy Dave, who responds Davishly. Subjects include a Yes Chimp for Stang, V. Swarup's audio book "Q & A", Chameleonalia, the Bone Yard in Tucson, Dave's cough, Wei's mom in Carlsbad Caverns, The Thing?, and a sick clip from John Waters reading his audiobook "Carsick." StangDoe describe The Salton Sea area in grisly detail and play a very strange location recording of animal life in remote Stang County, Texas. American Sniper and The Interview are mocked and Dr. Sinister plays a redneck. The Rudy Schwartz Project performs the Swinging Love Corpses hit song, "Pick a Booger." The strange "STANG PUKES YOU" grafitti in Japan is described. Dave rants about the end of the world and Stang rants about mispronunciations of Wei's name. Dr. Sinister analyzes Dave's protest songs, then the classic anti-religious-nut-country protest song "Kill for God" by The Rudy Schwartz Project is played.

Special episode, live at the WCSB studio in Cleveland with the great satirist, publisher and enemy of the Conspiracy Paul Krassner yakking with regular hosts Rev. Ivan Stang, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Princess Wei "R." Doe. It's a long, rambling funny discussion of "What REALLY Happened to The Left?" -- plus the unusual chain-gang of idiots. We have a song, "Bob" Pokes Me In The Eye, by someone who sounds like Martin Sheen, the song "On and Off the Road with "Bob" by Rev. Bleepo Abernathy, and a rant by, well, let's just call him Joe. Hour of Slack #1500 - Rerun of #1015-- Dread Dobbs!

To celebrate our fifteenth-hundredth week on the air, we pulled a rerun at random. This one is an unusually light-hearted and light-headed live show from October, 2005. Your host Rev. Stang was very tired and utters countless accidental malapropisms. Luckily there is much Killer Kollage from both LeMur and Rev. Norel Pref. Princess Wei "R." Doe and Lonesome Cowboy Dave kept Stang from just reading alt.slack out-takes or falling asleep. Stephen McQuillen's Katrina collage is ASTOUNDING. (Thanks to Phineas Narco for posting that to a.b.s.) Also: the great song "Dread Dobbs" by Lost Souls, Inc. NEXT WEEK: Paul Krassner live in the WCSB Hour of Slack studio!

This is a rerun of #679, mixed on tape on April 16, 1999, right after Stang's first marriage broke up and the Hour of Slack mixing studio was moved into a shabby Dallas bachelor apartment. (It was RE-reran as #1014 in 2005.) It's pretty good! Contents of this fast-paced episode include: Ancient Puzzling Evidence, media barrages, Onan Canobite music, SubG preaching by Pope Meyer and David Lynch, Byron Werner "Doktor" collages, Mark Mothersbaugh SubMusic, Dokstok III music, Stang's rants at Winterstar 99, rare ARISE! narration out-takes by Stang instead of Dr. Hal; some great ranting and jams by Stang with Einstein's Secret Orchestra from a rehearsal tape; a song by an Italian SubGenius band; Sister Krys ranting on WFMU; The Band That Dare Not Speak Its Name; ESO collages by Chas Smith; Rev. Susie the Floozie collages; King of Slack Bill T. Miller music; ESO radio with LC Dave and Stang; and a Rev. Friday Jones rant.
