The SubGenius Hour of Slack Podcast
The Church of the SubGenius Weekly Radio Ministry

Friends, some of you may have heard Rev. Stang whining and griping about how this dang show is taking too dang much time from BOOKS we'd like to be publishing, and that we might have to streamline some things, or use more reruns. Well, this one is streamlined -- that is, an uncut 45 minutes with Lonesome Cowboy Dave on the phone, followed by a Psycho Skeletons instrumental. But it STARTS with a ten minute orchestral suite by The Rudy Schwartz Project called "Demonstration of the Peach and the Brush." There is some sort of talk about viruses both new and ancient, and melting permafrost, and the 144,000 who will be saved, and J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, and the "marijuana" of the 2020s which is self-righteous indignation, and Alfred E. Numa-Numa, preacher vs. preacher, all the ways that the Boomers fucked up, the haircuts that held us all back... and God's love of Stang's "War on God" rant.

Poor beat-up old Rev. Stang has to undergo the gauntlet of the Failed Rupture every July 5, at 7 am, as the gathered SubGeniuses at whatever campground wait to see him, with the help of Rev. Susie the Floozie, Dr. Hal, Dr. Drummond, Princess Wei, et al, etc., pull some new kind of rabbit out of that same old hat. Stang always does, and this particular rabbit is the most pathetically raggedy, crippled and aged rabbit yet. Good thing there was plenty of 'Frop! The edited location recording lasts about 20 minutes and is relieved by "Pillow Princess," a truly impressive and inspiring new X-Day hymn, in (no kidding) George Clinton/Jimi Hendrix style, by Rev. Neil B. Forme and The Mixolydian Illiteratti Experience. The episode closes with a very, very strange and oddly laid back performance by Dr. Hal, Dr. Drummond and the mysterious Reverend "X" from the fourth or fifth hour of onstage Show recording on July 2.

P.S.: This month is the 40th anniversary of the public outreach of The Church of the SubGenius, which started with the publication of SubGenius Pamphlet #1 on January 2, "1980."

P.S.S. Stang really did lose the secret red tickets and then find them again. That part was real. That and the simulated sex.

It was July 4 at 22X-Day Drill, and by the fourth hour of live blabbershow, Dr. Drummond and even Dr. Hal had pooped out -- but Rev. Ivan Stang and Princess Wei had returned, re-energized. This thus sounds very much like a Stang Ranch or Cleveland show with Dave calling in, except that instead of Dave on the phone we had on stage our erstwhile Cleveland Heights neighbor, IDRMRSR, aka Mister Sister, one of the few official Church conservatives. He had been tippling a bit. (We managed to slide a little Lonesome Cowboy in the mix too.) Also represented are Rev. Watt deFalk, and music by Rev. Angry Larry with mystery accompanist X recorded live at 22X-Day Drill -- complete with loud boorish drunks talking over it. Also: The Rudy Schwartz Project; The Skeletons (Psycho); and Dewey Cox (two songs from "Walk Hard"). LeMur's cutting-up spices everything, and Mr. F. LeMur is actually discussed as a person by the only one of us who has actually met him!

This episode's title is also the name of the Rudy Schwartz Project instrumental near the beginning, after the LeMur collages. (All collages in this episode are by Mr. F. LeMur.) We get music new and old, respectively, by The Slot Rods and Dr. Onan Canobite, plus a Lonesome Cowboy Dave classic, "The President's on the Phone," from three Presidents ago. The talk parts were mostly recorded on July 4th of the so-called 2019, on location at the cult compound where the X-Day Drill was held. Dr. Hal, Dr. Philo Drummond, and Rev. Ivan Stang, presiding, along with Rev. Lord Angry Larry. A couple of Brother Russell's prank calls to Christian stations (as "Melba") are referenced and included. There is much detailed discussion of the greatest of the worst movies, as well as of Doc Savage and his son Dork.
